As always, first impressions count! I didn't know what to think because when we met for the very first time, he was very 'up front and open' about why NOT to have this surgery. I thought to myself, 'He is NOT the surgeon for me.' He wanted me to know that it isn't the answer for everyone. It is a decission that I'd have to go home and really think about. (And Boy did I! I researched and learned as much as I possibly could learn on the internet & talked to people that had it done.) He wanted me to know all the PRO's & CON'S and shared w/ me how it changed people and even their 'loved' ones...

Over time, I have come to realize that Dr. Hanks was right on how he 'introduced' me to the world of Bariatric Surgery. I felt very comfortable and started understanding more and more why he talks to pre-ops the way he does. By the way, the Bariatric Seminars that they have bi-monthly are very educational and is 'a must' for all his Pre-ops.

The Staff at NESG (his office) has been so supportive. I always get a smile from everyone when I walk in and they always ask how I am doing. This isn't the only surgery that they specialize in BUT, he and the staff make me feel important and special. (Not just another name on the sign-in sheet.) The treatment I get there is wonderful. I always get my questions answered and I 'always' have a question for them! I think I drive them crazy at times!

I honestly have no problems w/ Dr. Hanks. If ever there was a time I questioned something, he would take his time and explain whatever was concerning me.

As far as what PRE-OP's should know about Dr. Hank's...JUST READ THIS! I also want to add that he is very confident w/ what he does otherwise he wouldn't be doing this. (That is his own words!)

It is very important (to him) that you know what 'every step' of this journey is going to be like. He explains 'everything' (all the risks) and more about what to expect post-op. As he stated, "You're mine for the next 5 years!" He wants to keep intouch and make sure you are doing the right things and that you stay on track.

The Mt. Clemens General Bariatric Support Group is wonderful. It is a very caring and loving group of people. People from all walks of life. We get together monthly and have 'Guest Speakers' every other month. (There is a 'Main Topic' ever month.) Our topics that are discussed are pre or post- op related. On a lighter side, we have group outings, an annual picnic (that the doctors come and COOK FOR US!...Always a GREAT TIME!!!), and of course our Christmas Party.

How would I rate Dr. Hanks overall? I am NOT alone when I say that I am blessed that I met this man. His faith and care for people shows in every way...every day! What I like most is the RESPECT has has for others. I have known many doctors im my life and I have felt like I'm at the bottom step looking up to them but w/ Dr. Hanks, we're both standing on the middle step! You'll see what I mean 'if' and 'when' you get the opportunity to meet him!

O.K.
O.K. I am still having some issues with things that happened before the surgery and until I discuss them with the Dr. and the staff, I don't really feel comfortable stating them on-line for all to read.

I met Dr. Roy Hanks and Dr. Michael D'Almeida at their WLS seminar on 7/22/03. I know of one lady who had her surgery by Dr. "D" in March '03, and was very pleased with him. My PCP knows Dr. Hanks and highly recommends him. I joined their patient support group and have learned much more about both surgeons in the past six months. I had my initial consultation with Dr. Hanks 11/17/03. He was thorough in his explanation of the surgery. I have now been approved by my insurance company for the surgery, and am waiting for my 2nd appointment with Dr. Hanks to set my surgery date. Dr. Hanks office staff has been professional and compassionate. I had my second appointment with Dr. Hanks 2/27/04, and my surgery date is now set for 3/9/04. Dr. Hanks is extremely thorough, and I am going to get the benefit of Dr. D'Alemedia as TSA in the surgery. I am anticipating only good things.

Dr. Hanks is very professional, straight to the point and thorough. At my initial consultation, he explained the surgery and complications. He also shared his expectations of his patients during aftercare. He sounded very confident in his abilities and had a wonderful personality. If felt as if I was in excellent hands. His bedside manner was brief, yet personable. He seems to truly care about his patients.

He was very caring and completely informative. Makes you right at ease, goes slowly and answers all your questions very forthcoming and honest. Like him very much, feel very comfortable with him as my surgeon. Staff has not been very helpful so far.

FELT DR HANKS WAS VERY NICE AND PROFESSIONAL. WHEN I HAD MY CONSULT, HE HAD NOT DONE MANY PROCEDURES. ME AND MY HUSBAND STILL FELT COMFORTABLE WITH HIM. VERY GLAD I HAD IT DONE.

My first impression of Dr. Hanks was very positive. I've only met with him once. I'm waiting for insurance approval. He really took the time to explain everything to me. I didn't feel rushed. He answered all of my questions, provided me with extra material. He was just so nice and really seemed to care about my overall health and well-being, which I really liked.

My paperwork was submitted to insurance for approval in 3/03. By 4/7/03 I was making my pre-op consultation appointment with Dr. Hanks. So by May 12, 2003 I will have a date set. The personnel at Dr. Hanks' office are so wonderful.

Dr. Hanks is the nicest person/surgeon I think I've ever met. He is very concerned that his patients know in advance just what will happen. You are under for the surgery but he still lets you know what will be happening. He doesn't pull any punches with you, he lets you know how it will be after surgery as well. He made sure I understood that 4 hours after surgery I WILL be out of bed and walking around. I like that idea. I know I will be sore but I would rather get up and move around because that means I will recover that much quicker.

My first appointment with Dr. Hanks was on April 15, 2002. I can still remember sitting there and being so ashamed of myself and still not being sure what I was getting myself into. I immediately liked Dr. Hanks. He took his time and was very thorough with an explanation of the procedure. Dr. Hanks talked about the risks of the procedure. I was a little intimidated because at that time they were just beginning to do the procedure. However, I knew that I wanted the procedure performed laparoscopically and this was my chance. I also liked that he told me what was expected of me after surgery. There were no surprises. Dr. Hanks also answered all my questions and I still take a list of questions with me to my appointments. The appointment seemed like hours and I will never forget it, it was a day that changed my life!

I liked Dr. Hanks. He answered all my questions, spent as much time with me as I needed, explained the procedure thoroughly, detailed all the risks and possible complications of the surgery, and seemed to really care if I understood what I was getting myself into. My mom knows Dr. Hanks from when he was a resident and immediately liked him. He always seemed to care about his patients, was willing to come and check on them day or night, and always took into account the nurses' observations and opinions. The office staff was efficient and friendly.
