I talked to my step mother who had the surgery along with my dad. Both of them referred Dr Marshall to me, and so after speaking with my personal phsychian that is who I told him I wanted to see.
On 12/4/01 I went and had my first consultation with Dr marshall and I met Melinda. I was really nervous but after speaking to Melinda who is the consultant that runs the support group and the education class, I was more at ease. I talked to Dr Marshall who said I should be a canidate for lapro and that I am a canidate for the surgery. I have my appointment scheduled for the two classes and am waiting on my appointment with the psycologist. Dr Marshall seemed to be a bit in a hurry but was very nice, I feel though that I will be in very capable hands and I trust him.

I went and saw Dr Gupta today and I have to say I was very impressed with him, and I really like him. He was concerned about me, as a person not just as a patient. He asked me alot of questions, and he listened to my answers. I feel very safe with him as my surgeon and I could not be in better hands. I am waiting now for the hospital to call me and set up my schedule date for my surgery now. It has been along time coming but good things come to those who wait, and getting Dr Gupta to be my surgeon is one of those good things. He is a very caring man, and I feel good about this. I know I am ready for the surgery and the life style change that I am preparing to make, but it is time for a change for me anyway. Dr Gupta did though listen to me and feels that now I need to have open surgery instead the Lapro because of some scar tissue that I have. He took the time to listen and hear me as I spoke of some of my own concerns. Overall n a scale of 1-10 I would give Dr Gupta a 10. Because of so many reasons, his lisening, his caring attitude, he took the time to speak with me and did not rush me at all. He spoke of the changes after the surgery of the risks in having the surgery, he made sure I know to contact my personal physician.

I went and saw Dr Gupta one last time before the sugery. Everything is a go for th 31st, I am so excited. Dr Gupta is wonderful I am more comfortable with him then I think any Dr, he makes me laugh and he cares about his patients. I could not be in better hands I feel. He has always talked to me about every aftercare, followed up with me made sure I quit smoking.

I had my surgery on Halloween and at first it was more pain then I imagined there would be. Dr Gupta was the best though, I knew I was in the best hands for this and that he understood me and the situation that being overweight pertained to me keeping it personal. He has always though this journey talked to me, and made sure this was about me, not just another over weight person. The operation went smoothly I had pain that was to be expected but he made sure to help me try and control that. I knew when I went in for the operation that I was with the right Doctor.

I love Dr. Gupta, and the impression has not changed over time. While I did have to have a revision, I have and had complete and utter confidence in him. I was told he was the surgeon that the others go to when they need or want help with fixing something, surgery-wise.

His office staff is fantastic and really show a lot of concern and sensitivity with the patients.

I least liked that he would not agree to do the abdominalplasty when he was doing the hernia repair. I was told originally that he might do it. He can, he just choses not to and it is not something that he likes to do.

I would highly recommend him to anyone, he is very sweet, kind, compassionate, and I always thought I could talk to him about literally ANYTHING, no matter how embarassing I thought it was. He understands and answers truthfully.

He emphasizes aftercare very strongly and almost insists on it. He has seen me every 3 months since the original surgery and has not charged me one cent for co-pay since the revision.

He advised me of the risks of surgery and while did not 100% try to discourage me, he did do a little in the line of trying to dissuade me. When he saw that I was firm and determined, he did all in his power. Also from the time that I originally found out that Peoria was an option, from the time I called until I got in was one week, then about 1 1/2 month later I was having the first surgery.

I would rate him whatever the highest rating could possibly be. If it is 100A+++ then that would be it!

He has all, the surgical competence and beside manner. I saw more of the interns in the hospital, but otherwise he was great. I always saw him on office visits and he always had time to talk to me and address my concerns and/or questions. Even when I was a little discouraged with slow weight loss, he would say, hey, but look where you were; and but that is great, don't beat yourself, you are doing super; or I am very happy with what you are doing and similar statement. I could be his PR person in a heartbeat.

Dr. Gupta was very attentive to detail,Very kind and understanding. He is very cautious which is so improtant to me. I really like him. However from my understanding he will not be the actual surgeon. The office staff was absolutely wonderful and informative. Aftercare was a very strong emphasis. No support group means no surgery, with a very sructured aftercare program. Dr. Gupta was very imformative regarding risks and possible complications of surgery. OF a scale from 1-10, I would rate Dr. Gupta a 10. Surgical copetence and bedside manner are both very important to me. I thought he could have been more sympathetic to my needs right at this moment, he seemed very stern in my opinion.

first impression,I love this surgeon.
I like his personality. He took the time to answer all my questions and went over all the risks. He is not only knowledgeable but very pleasant to look at.

Dr.Gupta makes a very favorable first impression. He is friendly and concerned. He made every effort to explain the procedure and all the possible complications and risks. My only possible negative would be that my first visit post op was maybe a bit briefer than I would have liked.

He has a very good reputation as surgeon among medical personnel. My surgery went smoothly. He opted (and I agreed) to do an open procedure because of the possibility of extensive scar tissue from another procedure. It was the right decision.

Personally, I want my surgeon to be a competent technician when he/she is operating on me. Bedside manner is nice, but secondary. A surgeon who lacks bedside manner should probably be sure that his or her staff can supply bedside manner.

In my opinion Dr. Gupta has both competence and bedside manner.

I also like it that he's pretty young. I figure he's more likely to be physically able to handle the rigors of a surgical schedule.

I work with Dr. Gupta's wife and had met him previously in professional and social situations. He was extremely helpful and considerate. He worked with me and the insurance company and got my surgery approved after the first letter. He genuinely cares about his patients and shows that with his bedside manner and expertise. My impression of Dr. Gupta did not change much except that he proved what I thought about at first was right. He was very good with my children and kept them up to date with everything that was going on with my case. The office staff at Peoria Surgical Group has been great with me [from the receptionist to the financial secretary to the staff nurse to the bariatric nurse coorinator]. I have nothing derogitory to say about Dr. Gupta or his staff. Even the residents who helped with my case were great.
Anyone thinking of having Dr. Gupta perform their WLS are going in the right direction. He will be upfront and staightforward with you. He will take the time to answer all your questions. As far as aftercare, this group of surgeons have comprehensive program set up. They have a nurse that only deals with the bariatic patients. THey have a complete education program with support groups for pre-op and post-op patients. The Drs. follow-up with you every 3 months for a year and yearly after that to check labs and such (minimum). On a 1-10 scale I would give him a 9.5. I am a nurse so I knew the risks going in (littld did I know that I would go on to experience almost all the complication that could happen). My only complaint, if you can call it that ,is that when I had some major setbacks he was out of town. But since I was in and out of the hospital 6 times and off work almost 5 months, I would guess that he would need a vacation with his family sometime. As you can tell I would recommend Dr. Gupta to everyone.
11/18/02 I am 17 months from surgery now and am still pleased with the care given by Dr. Gupta and his staff. I have had further surgery performed by Dr. Gupta. He repaired 2 large vental hernias and performed a tummy tuck. I have had complications again but not from anything he did. I apparently just have trouble healing. Again he has been very compaaaionate and his skills are beyond compare.
7/28/03 I am still pleased with my choice of a surgeon and group. I began having trouble with weight gain and was greatly pleased that even with this problem, Dr. Gupta was there to help. He had me come in to talk about things and he set me up with a psychologist to help with my problems. I have had my 2 year checkup and everything is going great. Dr. Gupta remains concerned with my progress and I feel sure that he will help in way he can.

I have not met with him yet however was highly recommended by PCP and OSF. Spoke with his office and they are nice. However seems things are a little backwards and a lot of hoops to jump thru. I feel that it will be worth the wait. After all jumping is good exercise(LOL)

My first impression of Dr. Gupta was one of liking. Although he was very young, he seemed very competent and I felt I was putting myself into capable hands.

This impression never changed, but has only grown stronger.

The office staff is very professional and were helpful with all questions and concerns that I had during the period leading up to my surgery.

I can't think of a single thing that I didn't like about Dr. Gupta.

Future patients should know that he's a caring, concerned doctor and will do his very best for them.

Aftercare is highly stressed by this entire surgical group and they have an excellent aftercare program.

He was quite honest about the risks of surgery and told me that he wished we could come up with some other solution to my weight problem that didn't involve such a drastic step.

On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate him at least a 9.

Both his surgical competence and bedside manner are great. I really like this young doctor.

I first met Dr. Gupta at the hospital before having an emergency appendectomy. I was upset, of course, and in pain and he was very informative and relaxed me and reassured me everything would be fine, and it was. My first impression of him is that I thought he was the nicest specialist I have ever met. He is very thorough and takes the time to answer your questions. He seems like he genuinely cares about you. I was upset after seeing the pychiatrist and called his office and he actually was prompt and called me back himself. He reassured me and was very nice.

The only bad thing I have to say, which isnt really about Dr. Gupta, is it takes so long to get a date. I understand that he wants to be assured that you are 100% sure this is what you want. I just dont understand why you cant get a date sooner.

Dr. Gupta really emphasizes aftercare and support groups. He told me I better like him because I am going to be seeing him a lot. Their office has a wonderful support group format for pre and post surgery. I have met a lot of very nice people there. They also have wonderful speakers that come talk during support groups. They have a pharmacist and a nutritionist to work with you that you have email access to.

As you can see I have nothing bad to say about Dr. Gupta. I think a lot of him. I have several refrences from different doctors on his surgical competencey, his bedside manner is terrific and I am glad he is my surgeon.
