Sina Matin Bariatric Surgeon M.D.

Dr Matin is a very good dr. He is very straightforward and will tell you everything you want to know straight up and doesnt sugar coat anything, I love him but if you dont like somone to tell you the truth without beating around the bush then you wont. He did my band removal and my gastric bypass he is an excellent dr and very throrough to be sure you dont have any complications during your surgery.

The reason I chose Dr. Matin as my surgeon was not only because he came highly recommended by fellow patients and peers but also because of his no nonsense approach. He is VERY honest with you and wants nothing but the best for you and your health. He will not do a procedure on you if it is not going to suit you best. He TRULY is good at what he does and cares about you and your health for LIFE! I have the great honor to speak with him at seminars and he is a wonderful, dedicated, and transparent surgeon.

What was your first impression of him/her?
He was very straight-forward and honest and blunt (which if you do not like that then he's not for you), and I liked all of these qualities. He took the time to answer all of my questions and meet my husband (doctors seem to always be in a hurry and he wasn't).
How did your impression change over time?
I'll have to update, because I have only seen him during my consult.
How would you describe his/her office staff?
I really like the office and I feel like family with Tracy. She seems to have a large case load, but when she says she'll get something out she does. Ashley is very kind and explains thing very well. I have yet to meet Megan so I'll update later.
What did you like least about him/her?
Nothing so far, but again I have only visited with him once. I wish he had more office hours though in that particular office.
What should future patients know about him/her?
Just that he is very blunt and I don't think he's the "hand-holding" type. Get to know his staff that seems to be where the support comes from.
How much does he/she emphasize aftercare?
I have not spoken to him, but have an appt this Wed. Will update.
Does he/she have a structured aftercare program?
How did he/she address the risks of surgery?
During the consult he answered all my questions honestly and didn't sugar coat anything, and at the same time didn't scare me so that's good.
How would you rate him/her overall?
So far 8/10.
Which is better, surgical competence, bedside manner, or are both great?
Can't compare right now...but surgical competence is great.

Dr. Matin and his staff were absolutely FABULOUS. He wants to make sure you are comfortable with your decision and takes the time to answer any and all questions. He makes sure you are going to the support groups post op, tha tyou have a support network etc. I personal have found him thorough, has great beside manner before and after surgery and what you see is what you get with him he lays it all out for you and doesn't sugar coat anything!

I selected Dr. Matin becasue I really enjoyed his demeanor at my seminar. I get really tired of doctors that take themselves too seriously, and I appreciated that he had both a sense of humor about him and patience with the people in the seminar that, quite frankly, just didn't get it. rnrnI took my mother with my to my consult becasue she's far more nervous about this than I am. She also seemed comfortable with him, his knowledge, and his demeanor. At the consult, I really appreciated that he recognized that I had done my homework and that I was fairly knowledgable about the medical field in general (I work in the medical field). He wasn't condescending to me and didn't dumb down the answers to my questions.rnrnHe did prescribe some more in-depth pre-op testing than my friends had to go through, so I didn't leave my consult with a date as I had expected. I was a little frustrated about that, but as I thoguht about it, I decided that I'd rather wait another month or six weeks and know that I was as safe as possible than to have gone in and had my doctor be surprised.rnrnDr. Matin is based at Baylor Irving, but I am going through the WLS center at Baylor Dallas. Since he is not based there, things do move a little more slowly, but his office staff has been GREAT and very responsive to my needs.
