Sunny Shah Bariatric Surgeon

Dr. Shah performed my Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy on 9/29/14. All my encounters with Dr. Shah have been professional and courteous. Upon meeting her I was comfortable in her abilities and truly felt that she was confident and capable.
Everything went perfectly on the day of surgery. Everyone I have encountered at Tufts Weight and Wellness Center and Dr. Shah's office has been fabulous. I know Dr. Shah has truly helped me take the needed steps to change my life for the better.

I had Gastric ByPass at Tufts Medical Center on Feburay 28th of this year. When I first met with Dr. Shah in December of 2010 she answer all my medical questions and then the visit was more like talking with a long lost girlfriend!! I was instantly at ease. I had already lost weight and was practicing mindful eating.
Dr. Shah and the entire team at Tufts Medical Center are always a phone call away. I will be starting my small group this week and every third monday there is a meeting for people who have had the surgery. These meetings are so helpful to share what you are going through.
I can not praise Dr. Shah and Tufts enough, I would recommend them to all!!

Dr. Shah is the best doctor, let alone surgeon, that I have ever had. She was absolutely amazing through my surgery and after. My first impression of Dr. Shah was that she was incredibly intelligent and confident and instantly put me at ease. My impression has not changed over time and my feelings of confidence have only grown more confident as time has gone by. Dr. Shah's office staff was knowledgeable and helpful. I really can't come up with anything that I like least about Dr. Shah.
Dr. Shah is a member of the Tufts Weight and Wellness Center and the group absolutely emphasizes pre and post op care and follow-up. The pre-op preparation group made me well prepared to handle the complications and what the post-op diet and life would be like.
Overall Dr. Shah is outstanding. Her surgical competence and bedside manner are, in my opinion, best amongst all of the surgeons that I have dealt with at Tufts Medical Center and with my extended stay (5 days) I pretty much had contact with every one.
So to give a quick summary of why I feel Dr. Shah did such a great job, is that I had complications during surgery with bleeding and due to the clotting meds used to control this ended up with a blockage which showed up during my upper GI test. Dr. Shah visited me multiple times until we confirmed the blockage and then multiple times after arranging for a procedure to both relieve pressure on my old stomach and which ultimately cleared the blockage leading me to being discharged two days later.
I have never had so much undivided attention in a hospital stay and although the guidelines for writing this review say that we should not have completely 100% positive reviews that I can't honestly come up with anything negative to say about her.
I highly recommend Dr. Shah.

Dr.Shah and the whole team at Tufts Medical Center were amazing and helped you through the whole process.. they are always available to answer and questions you have. She made sure that I knew all the pros and cons of the surgery and made me well aware of all the risks that came with the surgery. I would recommend her to anyone considering the surgery!

Dr. Shah was very friendly and professional. She knew exactly what I want to hear and what I was looking for. Before meeting with Dr. Shah I was sure that I wanted to get the Lap-Band but after meeting with her I knew I need Gastric Bypass. I only met her once and looking forward to my surgery (8/17/10). As of today 08/08 I'm not on any kind of diet or restriction. Hoping that I will get the approval from Insurance.

Dr Shah is a surgeon at the OCC at Tufts- NEMC in Boston MA. rnrnI have only met with her once, and have not had my surgery as yet. That being said....rnrnShe is an amazing woman with a great, patient manner and is wonderful about answering all your questions (no matter how silly, and boy have I had some silly ones). I will say that I feel the program in its entirety wants to steer its patients toward GBP, and that was a little scary at first, because I had a strong desire for the lap-band. However, the staff is patient and very encouraging that this is YOUR decision....I digress....rnrnDr. Shah. studied under Dr. Shikora (the surgical director of the program at NEMC), and I thought she was best for my needs because she is young, but not green. I chose the NEMC program because of the information I could get at their website, and because the director was one of the first in New England to do the Laproscopic RNY.rnrnWhen I asked her why she decided to do these kinds of surgeries she told me that when she started studying minimally invasive surgery (her specialty) she was told that the most difficult kind of surgery to do was the laproscopic RNY. If you cold do that, you could do any laproscopic procedure. She stayed with Dr. Shikora's program because of the effect doing this surgery has on patients. I loved that answer. To me, it means she likes a challenge and isn't afraid of the tough stuff, but that she has a big heart and truly cares about what she does. rnrnI am sure I will have more to say as time goes on and I get closer to surgery.
