Dr. Byrne was very straight forward. He hides nothing about the surgery or the outcomes or possibilities. He lays everything on the line from the beginning. He is an excellent surgery and I have had excellent care from him and his staff.

I was impressed with Dr. Byrne from the start. I was tremendously nervous and he put me at ease with his demeanor. He was honest and up front about risks and complications as well as benefits. I never felt like he wasn't anything but focused on me the whole time I was face to face with him...a comforting feeling when you are about to be face to guts with this guy you've just met. ;)
I never felt like a number or a paycheck for him.
All of the people involved with the red tape prior to surgery up to present post-op needs have been very helpful and swift to respond to me.
The actual caregivers on the floor after surgery were very competent for the most part, but some seemed rude and I was not even sponged off the 5 days I was in the hospital ( and I mean the hospital staff, not Byrne's surgical team...they, as well as he, were most excellent), but I did inform the Hospital of this after the surgery, so hopefully that* is no longer an issue.

*later edit* from what I understand, this is no longer an issue. another post-op of Dr. Byrnes told me that he had seen this post and made sure to clear it up.

I had a consult with Dr. Byrne this past week and I was very impressed with him. His staff seemed caring and it seemed like they all liked their jobs. Dr. Bynre is like the "Dr. Phil" of WLS because he tells you like it is and does not sugar coat the facts about this surgery and its risks. I look forward to finally having this surgery early next year especially with Dr. Byrne as my surgeon.

I have yet to met Dr. Byrne in person but I have been in contact with him. He has been wonderful. If it wasn't for his help I would never have been able to get my initial appointment. He has been there to help and offer support when no one else would/could.

I finally had a chance to meet Dr. Byrne in person on May 22. He is such a caring and wonderful doctor. His staff was amazing. They treat everyone equal and they make you feel so comfortable.

I loved Dr. Byrne from the word "go." He was straight to the point, much like me, and his no nonsense approach was exactly what I needed. My impression has only gotten better as time goes on, and I can do a pretty good impression of his accent too. (haha) His office staff is just great- I've never had a bad experience. Future patients should know that he doesn't pull any punches, and if you're looking for someone to coddle you, look elsewhere. He'll tell you the upside AND the downside of the surgery, he's completely honest about the risks, he's not afraid to speak of patients he's lost or had complications with, either. Overall, I wouldn't want anyone else to lay a finger on me, I trust him completely. His surgical competence is A-1, and his bedside manner is perfect too, as long as you don't mind hearing the truth.

My appointment is March 20th with Dr.Byrne. My greatest concern is getting to his office since my knees/lower legs and feet are getting worse and I can hardly walk anymore.Someone gave me a walker and I have a cane and a bottle of tylenol..so I'm READY to start the "first step" of my adventure..
I have been told they have wide wheel chairs at the entrance of the Rutledge Building and maybe I can be lucky enough to get one and find his office by 8:30AM !!
I was going to buy a wheel chair or a scooter but I hope if I can have this surgery that I won't have to .. .

I went to the required meeting in February where we were given information to consider and ponder ...and I have been seriously thinking about it ever since. From the good things said about Dr Byrne on this site, I have confidence in him.I appreciate all the stories shared for they give me courage to try.

I have never worn a pair of jeans ..I can hardly imagine ...

First impression was that he was all business. I could tell that he wanted to get to the heart of the matter. He is a straight shooter no beating around the bush with him and I like that. I will say the days I went it was much like hurding cattle from one room to another. They were buisy. When we had our nutrition class that room was standing room only.
-The staff seemed nice but again it was like a roulette wheel of people just comming in asking a few questions the heading out.
-I really was impressed with his kinder gentler side. We discussed any patients he had lost in his 12 to 15 years and he remember all 3 of them and he spoke of this one lady and howhe did all he could do for her spending all Christmas at the hospital taking care of her. He said there isn't a day that goes by he doesn't think of her.
-He will tell you you don't like what I want for you that is fine go up the road and find another DR that will do a Lap on you but I ere on the side of safety and I just don't feel that is the way to go with you. I will never put a patient in a compromsing situation. Loved that! -If there is anything else you would like to know about him do give me a call or send and e-mail to [email protected]

I met with Dr. Byrne for a consultation 3/13/03 and I thought he was great. He was straight forward as to what will be done and what to expect. I wouldn't have had it any other way. I am now waiting for his secretary to scheudle a surgery date. I was told the surgery date will be sometime in September. His staff was very nice. I would give Dr. Byrne and his staff an excellent rating.

i HAVE ONLY MET WITH DR. BYRNES ONE TIME. MY FIRST IMPRESSION WAS THAT HE LISTENS TO THE PATIENT. I FOUND HIM TO BE EXTREMELY UPFRONT ABOUT EVERYTHING. NO SUGAR COATING ON HIS PART.

i FEEL HE IS GENUINELY COMMITTED IN HELPING PEOPLE CHANGE THEIR LIVES AND LEARNING TO LIVE A DIFFERENT LIFESTYLE.

HIS EMPHASIS ON AFTERCARE WAS VERY INFORMATIVE.

DR. BYRNES EXPLAINED THE SURGERU IN DETAIL AS WELL AS THE RISKS INVOLVED. IN NO WAY DOES HE TRY TO PERSUADE YOU TO HAVE THE SURGERYBUT LETS YOU KNOW HE WILL DO ALL HE CAN TO HELP.

I BELEIVE THAT SURGICAL COMPETENCE AND A GOOD BEDSIDE MANNER GO HAND IN HAND.
