Thomas J. White Bariatric Surgeon M.D.,F.A.C.S.

Dr. White is very nice. His wife helps him at the clinic and also does the support groups. He is very laid back and wants to answer all my questions. His wife also make herself available for questions when I come for my appointments. They say call anytime. THe office staff is so helpful. Kim is great. I feel very good about my choice. He wanted me to go on a liquid diet for ten days before the surgery, but when I questioned him about it, he said I didn't have to do it unless I wanted to do it. That took away a lot of anxiety for me. After the surgery I will update this more.
POST SURGERY: It has been four 1/2 months since my surgery and I have lost 35 lbs. Dr. White was great during the surgery and after. He is still learning how to treat the AGB patients differently than the Bypass, but I am sure that has improved greatly since May 28. I had one fill and I think he put in too much fluid, but I have survived for 2 months and plan to wait a while before having another one. Overall, I would rate him pretty high!

I met Dr. White at a support group meeting in February 2003. I was immediately struck by his sense of caring and professionalism as I listened to his presentation on the various weight loss surgery procedures.
At a follow up consultation, he was extremely friendly and helpful especially when he learned my insurance company refused to pay for the surgery.
At subsequent brief visits after support group meetings, he remembered personal details about me such as that I'm a singer and wanted my vocal chords protected carefully during anethesia and that I was journalism professor and that my son attends his undergraduate alma mater.
I have three close friends who are all married to Omaha physicians and they all checked out Dr. White for me. His peers all said he was an excellent surgeon. The nurses who took care of me at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha on every shift had nothing but positive comments about both his competence and working relationship with the hospital staff.
His staff is very through and competent. One staff member was very reassuring when I was having anxiety about post-surgery complications as a self-pay patient. Everyone I met at the support group meetings had unquestionable faith in Dr. White. That made the decision to follow through with the surgery so much easier.
He has exceptional surgical skills and an excellent bedside manner. The physician's assistants and nurses were helpful in explaining post surgery aftercare and the nutrition and exercise plan.
I am so lucky I found him and would highly recommend Dr. White to any patient.

Met Dr. Tom White and his staff tonight. It was his first "group consult". He is an expert in laproscopic surgery, and has been doing the Lap RNY since last November. He's starting a support group next month. He took the time to answer all questions, and his staff was very helpful, too!<br> Dr. White is great! I have had absolutely no problems, and would recommend him to anyone. His PA is also great, as is his wife who runs our support group.

Well......I just heard that Dr. Jacobs is leaving the state. I have not talked to the office yet but want to hear. I have completed all my tests and was waiting to lose 30 lbs. and I was to get scheduled. I dont know what to do know.
I have a new Dr. His name is Dr White and he is great. We had a group consult and then a month later he remembered me. That is very good!
Lets you decided what you want to do rather than telling you what he wants to do.

I was very pleased with Dr. White's knowlege and his willingness to answer any questions I had. I did a lot of research and really had few questions. I had concerns about my age 55 y/o and he was very kind at lessening my fears that I was still young and would be fine.
Dr. White's staff were very helpful and if I needed anything I could just call them and they would be happy to help.
Nothing negative to say right now.
Its important to do your research , know what you want.
I am scheduled for surgery Feb. 17th, Dr has said he does aftercare checks for a year, he also offers a support group meetings in Omaha,
straight forward information.
I think he's great. Will know more after the 17th.

Dr. Tom White is a very caring doctor, who took the time to "research" my condition, talk to my other care providers and work with me as quickly as possible to get a surgery date scheduled. Dr White emphasized the risks of both having the surgery and not having the surgery. He also emphasized the life long commitment made by having this surgery, and he also told me of his experience with patients having complications after surgery and how he handled them. His office coordinator for the gastric bypass cases, Kim, was very helpful.
