I really like Dr Brown, at first hes hard to take but as you get to know him he really is a nice guy. He made sure my surgery went very smoothly. His bedside manner at the hospital was great too the 3 days I was in the hospital he stopped in every morning to see me and to see how I was doing. As for his office staff well you can't ask for a better bunch of ladies helping you get your life back! Lexi went out of her way to work with my insurance and that means alot. My insurance was asking for things left and right but Lexi never stopped giving it to them.

I am a week post op as I'm writing this and I couldn't be happier with who I chose to help me change my life.

So far so good.. I started seeing Dr Brown in Aug 2011..at first he does seem a bit tightly wound.. Yet after a few visits and he sees ur serious he warms up to yah.. I just got my approval for the VSG. I am soo excited and cant wait for my surgery date. Also am looking forward to the ONE incision.. so my overall opinion is.. he is a well knowledged doctor and has been in this practice for many years.. and has done many of these procedures..I will post again.. after surgery...

First impression of surgeon was good. He seemed knowledgeable and friendly. I believe he is probably one of the best WLS surgeons in the state. the adjustments have not gone well for me so far, but I'm sure this is not the case for all patients. I have quite a bit of fat tissue in my abdominal area, making it hard to find the port. I'm sure it will improve as I lose weight. rnThe office staff, particularly the nurse, is excellent. rnTo my knowledge, there are no support groups or other aftercare programs associated with this surgeon. But I do not live in the area (I live about 60 miles away)so there may be a support group or something that I am not aware of. And I paid for the surgery myself, so am not seeing a nutritionist, but it was offered.

I would STRONGLY suggest that patients get a second opinion from another bariatric specialist prior to working with this man. This man performed lap band surgery on my mom two weeks ago. She is now in intensive care at the hospital and with life threatening complications. At this point we are still unsure how much the lap band actually had to do with it all, but the head of bariatric surgery at the hospital said the lap band must come out as soon as she's a little better because it obviously doesn't agree with her system. While complications can happen to anyone they SHOULDN'T have happened to my mom because she was only 35 lbs overweight and as a result this surgery NEVER should have been performed in the first place. Dr. Brown seems to only care about getting the money for the surgery rather than making sure his patients actually NEED it. I hope to God my mom is ok, but I know she never would be in this position if this man was a more repsonsible pyhsician...oh and did I mention she was released from his care on her own...there was no one there to drive her home and make sure she was ok-she spent the night down there by herself in a motel. After being put under, don't you think they should have someone sign you out???? Unbelievable...if you truly are a candidate please make sure you check out more than his clinic before you make a decision!!

I too thought he was a bit stand offish at first, but he cam to the seminar and was very relaxed, helpful and humorous, which goes a long way for me!rnrnHis assistants are wonderful! St. Thomas More Hospital seems very good...I will be there on July 2nd for simplified GBY, so I will write more later...;)

1/4 Spoke with Reeny @ Dr Browns office. Registered for the Seminar and talked about getting the ball rolling. Unbelievably friendly and helpful. Being able to tell her my height and weight and not feel a sense disgust over the phone was awesome. Looking forward to sheding the shameful feeling of being \"BIG\". rn1/8 Andrea called to get consultation appt set.

I went to the orientation in Canon City October 19,2006. His presentation was very informative, and his office staff seemed willing to work with most any situation, but I've been told this by other surgeons and have been trying to get this surgery for several years so i am taking a wait and see attitude.

At first, he was a little standoffish. It didnt take long for us to \"warm up\"! and he answered all of my questions thoroughly including drawing a diagram. The office staff has been superb; they return calls in a timely manner, and treat me like a person, not like a dollar sign! I suggest writing a list of questions so you have all your bases covered when you go in. The only thing I dont like is the lack of a support group, but Andrea and Reny will answer any questions and issues you may have.rnrnHe addressed the risks of surgery by saying \"if I thought it was dangerous, I wouldnt perform this surgery. You are young enough to have the physiological reserves to recover from this, and have a healthier life\"...rnrnI will update after surgery regarding surgical competence! so far, good bedside manner from the entire staff....

I would definately recommend Dr. Brown and Colorado Bariatrics. I was Dr. Brown's first lap-band patient and so in some ways we have been learning together. He has been very helpful and supportive of me, not just for surgery but for all of the aftercare. Colorado Bariatrics does have a support group and, for me, that has been enough after care. I think they need something more structured for many of the patients. They do have an excellent dietician, Christine Ogden, working with their lap-band patients. I have found her imput to be very helpful and have continued to work with her.
