don't go to him. initially, I thought he was a good surgeon. when I experienced complications, he made himself scarce, and abandoned me 1 1/2 yrs later to fend for myself. I am presently transferring all of my care to Hopkins.

I had my surgery on Dec. 5 and Dr. Shope was my surgeon. I had a little pain while in the hospital but nothing major, since I have come home I have not had any pain, Nashua or vomiting, I have not even filled my prescription because that is how confident I am in Dr. Shope. He is a very friendly and funny doctor, when I was in his office getting a prescription for some Vitamin D they had a new system and he couldn't use it correctly so I'm there sitting and saying, hmmm I hope he can use his tools correctly on the table.LOL..but he has been great this short time I have known him. I felt good using him because I had done my research for a whole year learning about the pros and cons of the surgery and if I really wanted to go through with it. It,s only been four days out but I'm feeling just fine.

I am six months post-surgery & I am pleased with the education and services with Dr. S and the WHC Bariatric Clinic.

One week after the surgey, I still have no complaints.

updated 31 Dec 2013-

I'm now over 3yrs post surgery-I've relocated to another area of the country & I'm maintaining. I'm pleased with the surgery's results & the patient education I received. I had to increase my h2o intake to 90oz-helps to keep those micronutrients balanced

Dr. Shope is awesome! He is friendly, funny, and most of all, accomplished and knowledgeable. He is never in a hurry or a rush to see other patients when I have an appointment and has been extremely helpful in my weight loss journey. I'm am extremely pleased with the outcome of my surgery. I have had no pain, no nausea, and no vomiting. rnrnAfter care is extremely important to him, as he sees patients reguarly about every 6 weeks. rnrnPrior to surgery, the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center required a 6 month nutritional, dietary, and weight loss program. This facility's requirements before surgery provided me with the knowledge I needed before having the LAP Band procedure. I had very few questions before my surgery date of July 18, 2008.rnrnWithout reservation, I wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Timothy Shope as a bariatric surgeon, specifically for laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding.

My first impression of my surgeon was damn, he is tiny! Dr. Shope has been nothing but kind to me. He has answered every single question from serious (complication %/infection rate) questions to my frivolous (can I wear acryllic nails/dark nail polish/drink with a straw) type questions. I am having my surgery July 17th with him, so I will update after the actual surgery. But so far, his bedside manner is fabulous, AND he has a sense of humor. Hershey Medical Center has an EXTREMELY structured program where you go through rigorous testing and see nutritionists for 6+ months, a psychologist, exercise specialist (if needed..I didn't have to go to him, but my husband and mother did), a sleep study doctor (again, I already had a sleep study, so I didn't have to go to theirs) and an anesthesia clinic. I'll be honest, everyone has been very nice, but I do have one complaint...the front desk staff at Hershey Middletown where you see the Nutritionists. They need to be more aware of billing and appointments, because there have been multiple times when I was scheduled on a day when there was no group or the nutritionist I was supposed to see wasn't there or my insurance was billed wrong. Also, I feel as if in the nutritional classes we should be reviewing more about the lifestyle changes that will be occurring AFTER surgery and eating plans AFTER surgery and talking more about the surgery itself. I personally, having a masters degree in Occupational Therapy and a bachelors degree in Health Science (minor in psych), could have EASILY ran both the individual and group meetings for nutrition that I attended, they were THAT basic.

Dr Shope is a kind and caring. He is very patient and willing to explain til you understand.rnrnHis office staff are very helpful and courteous. rnrnHe is very concerned about aftercare.rnrnYes there is an aftercare program. And a wonderful support group!rnrnHe told me all of the risks.rnrnI would give him a 10 out of 10!rnrnBoth were excellent.rnrnThe only thing he didn't explain was that I would have a pus colored drainage around my feeding tube. I needed the tube due to gastroparisis. Not everyone needs a tube.

I LOVE this guy! He's good at what he does...great bedside manner...and he's funny to boot! (got a great sense of humor) I like that. Just hope he gets a good night's sleep Sunday night (8/12) Don't want him falling asleep or feeling irritated during surgery! Will update after surgery... rnrnrnWell it's AFTER surgery and I STILL love this guy! Yes, he's a good Dr, very thorough and explains everything (in laymens terms for me, of course). I'm still having problems with pain in my chest and burping when I eat or drink and I'm getting real tired of it so I hope it gets diagnosed and treated soon (like yesterday). Had tests done and no blockage...what the heck could this be???

I met him for the first time the end of February. I loved him. He was great. Willing to take the time to answer any questions I had at any time. Even gave me his email address should I have any questions after the meeting. He addressed the risk of both surgeries with me but informed me that I was in fact a good candidate for the Lap Band. I will post more on him once I have my surgery.rnrn04/09/07- Ok, So I had the surgery, no problems. My doctor was great. He even left me go home that evening. I would highly recommend him. He went out to visit my family and spent time with them explaining things and what is next to come. All the other doctors were just calling out to the waiting room. He is my hero.

Dr. Timothy Shoup is wonderful!!rnVery kind and concerned. He made me feel as if it was a gift to him, that I wanted this surgery. Instead of, he was giving me a gift of a new and better life.

I had surgery w/ Dr. Shope on 12/8/06 and met with him twice beforehand. While he doesn't seem like the most talkative person I've ever met, he was quite personable each time I spoke with him, answered all of my questions (and I had a LOT) honestly, clearly, and thoroughly, and was very patient. rnrnHe did an OUTSTANDING job with my procedure (lap RNY); I had minimal (if any) pain afterwards, and 4 of the 5 tiny incisions are barely even noticeable less than 3 weeks after surgery. rnrnI was also pleased to note that, when he came to visit me post-op, he went right to the hand-sanitizing pump before even coming to my bedside-- unlike most of the nurses who cared for me during my stay. Attention to little details like that made me certain that I was in good hands and made the right choice in going with Dr. Shope. rnrnI really can't say enough good things about him-- he is just really great at what he does, plain and simple.
