Todd Kellogg Bariatric Surgeon M.D.

I was a bit concerned about Dr. Kellogg before my surgery. Having only met him once and only a handful of people giving him reviews, I was not too sure what to expect. I am so pleased with the outcome of my surgery, I honestly say, I would not have wanted anyone else. He did such a great job, everything went smooth, no complications and I do not think I will have much for scars. I have 6 small incision sites on my belly that look like they will fade pretty fast. When he came to see me on Tuesday evening, he was very nice and answered a few questions that I had without making me feel rushed. My overall experience with him was outstanding.

Dr. Kellogg was a very friendly and soft-spoken man. He took the time to explain about the different procedures available and the risks associated to me and answered any questions I had. He let me make the choice about what I wanted for me.
He shares a practice with Dr. Ikramuddin both at the University of Minnesota, and Regions Hospital in St. Paul where I had my surgery done. The staff at his practice are very very friendly and helpful, and while his Minneapolis Practice is quite busy, the St. Paul practice is relatively new and therefore the hoops prior to surgery are much quicker to jump through. From my orientation session until surgery it took 3 months (most of that time was trying to get in to see a psychologist to do the assessment. 8 weeks to complete)
He did a great job with the surgery. I was on the upper end of the spectrum for what could be done laproscopicly, but he was able to do the procedure with only 5 incisions and the jp tube.
He saw me each day in the hospital and spent all the necessary time answering any questions both I had, and my family had.

01/06/05 I am changing doctors.. I was going to have Dr. Lederer do my surgery but have changed health insurance plans and can now go to see Dr Ikramuddin. I have my information seminar set up for Feb 17 and then I am seeing him that following Monday. I have had two physicians tell me that I was a good candidate for the surgery. So I will update my impression of Dr Ikramuddin when I see him.
04/27/05 - Been a while since I have updated.. I couldn't get in with Dr Ikramuddin so I am seeing his partner. My surgeon will be his partner Dr Todd Kellogg. I have met with him once already and he is SO NICE.. I have done all the necessary tests ( pap, physical, echocardiogram, MMPI...) and I have an appointment this Friday to meet Dr. Kellogg one more time. I am hoping to be able to schedule the surgery at this date. I am so excited.
June 29 2005.. Well.. I finally got approved.. I have seen Dr. Kellogg twice now and both times he has been wonderful!!! He has such a good bedside manner and you can tell he geniuely cares for his patients... I am glad I chose to go with him...
I would recommend him to ANYONE!!

Well, first of all I thought that Dr. Ikramuddin was going to perform my surgery. Dr. Ikramuddin introduced himself to me and went over my medical history pre-op.
However, on my surgery date 1/27/05, Dr. Kellogg came in and introduced himself to me. I was totally confused and a little angry because I believe I had been misled.
I stated to him that I did not mind him performing the surgery because I was pretty sure that he was just as qualified to do so, as Dr. Ikramuudin was. I just thought it was wrong that no one notified me of this before hand.
Also, a week or so prior to my surgery date, I had asked this one staff person at Dr. Kellogg's office about me completing a "living will" type of document. She stated that it would be given to me on he day of my surgery (I thought that this was routine - NOT!!!) When I arrived for surgery at 6:00 a.m., I asked the prep-nurse about this and she brought the form in to me (now I know why she was looking at my kind of funny). It had very detailed - thought provoking questions on it, that I did not expect. I did complete the form, but I rushed through it and had it notarized before I was wheeled down to the operating room. (I felt I had to complete it as best as I could, just in case I did not survive the sugery so that my daughter (21 yrs. old w/ a 4 yr. old son) knew what my wishes were, i.e. not to be put/left on a resiperator if there was little or no chance that I would recover to live a decent, fullfilling life - I did not want her to have that burden of wondering if she did the right thing or not).
Bottom line is that I think that particular staff person should have provided me with this form at the dr.'s office, where I could have taken it home and completed it more thoroughly, instead of me having to complete it a half hour or less before being wheeled down to the "O.R.".
The anesthisologist, Dr. Kellogg, and the nurses were very understanding of my feelings regarding this and they told me to "take my time" in completing the form.
Finally, I feel that all of the staff including the person who did not give me the "living will" type form, were all very knowledgeable in all other areas re: bariatric surgery (i.e. the nurses, anesthiologists all asked me the same questions over and over again, regarding previous surgeries/dates/times etc., in which to me they were insuring that they had/have the correct info. that was needed to perform this surgery).
Not only did Dr. Kellogg; the dietitions; nurse practitioners, etc. inform me as to how important it is for me to drink at least 64 oz of water; take vitamins; and exercise post-op, etc. for the rest of my life...I feel that they were/are all very friendly, down-to-earth; and they had/have a great sense of humor, including Dr. Kellogg.
I would recommend Dr. Kellogg to my family, friends, and others who are thinking about getting this procedure done.
