Dr. Vivek N. Prachand, MD was my daughters surgeon. University of Chicago hospital is first class. The whole hospital staff and Dr Prachand office staff are a ten. Everyone are there to give a personal attention to detail and support your new journey.

Dr. Prachand was wonderful to my daughter and spend time answering everything and relaxed a mother's nerves. Dr Prachand has one of the best bedside manors, which is so important during this life changing procedure. He is one of the top barbaric doctors in all of Midwest and uses the latest techniques. I highly recommend Vivek N. Prachand, MD and the University of Chicago. Thank you Dr Prachand for taking fantastic care of my daughter. 7/8/2014 VSG

My first impression of Dr. Pranchand was that of someone that was caring and sympathetic to my endeavor. My impression changed because I know longer viewed him as my surgeon, I began to look at him as a partner that was taking this journey with me.

The office staff was PHENOMENAL, the entire team approach....Angela, Tracy, Nicole, the dietitians and all the support staff were truly knowledgeable and cared about our progress and personal achievements.

There is not one thing negative I can say, he made ensured that all of my questions were answered and that this was a lifestyle change. His aftercare program was also superb, I didn't encounter any challenges (THANK GOD), I saw him at two weeks, six weeks, a month from that, three months and again in six months. It was structured and catered to my needs as a patient.

He address the risk "realistically", he provided me with statistics, surgical risk as for any surgery. He put out all the details and specifics.

Overall I would rate him 20 stars out of five stars, His competence was great as well as his bedside manner. I have never been more comfortable sleeping away from home.

I have had the opportunity to talk with Dr. Prachand since the first step in considering WLS. In my opinion he is extremely experienced, knowledgeable and personable. He makes sure that you are fully aware of your decision to have WLS and what it entails, and he is patient. These qualities are extremely important to me for a surgeon who I am placing my life in his hands. I have great confidence in him and his surgical abilities and would refer him to anyone who is considering WLS.

I wish I could give Dr. Prachand 300 stars! He is such an incredible human being! I had 2 failed lap bands before my revision to DS and he was so supportive the whole time. My insurance denied me a revision 4 times and the last time Dr. Prachand personally talked to insurance. He fought so hard for me. He is so kind and gentle in manner he makes you feel so comfortable and never once makes you feel judged. I am so lucky to have him as my surgeon he is an amazing person!

My first impression of Dr Prachand was as they say a lasting impression. Upon meeting him the very first thought that came to mind was how he could be so very young yet have such an impressionable background. Talking with him I noticed many other good qualities in Dr. Prachand as well. He was very easy to talk with and I was really impressed with his level of expertise and his professional demeanor was just excellent. I found the experience of meeting him for the very first time very comfortable as he sat for a very long period of time talking with me, discussing and explaining the various aspects of the program. He took as much time as was needed to explain the risk and to talk with me about the residual effects of the surgery and the life changing aspects of the surgery along with the continued commitment needed to accomplish and sustain the weight loss. There was never a hint of rush rush as it usually is with most doctors.

I sensed that with Dr. Prachand it isn’t about the numbers it’s about each and every individual patient and their unique and individual needs. He is very skilled and knowledgeable and takes excellent care of his patients. I was particularly impressed with his truthfulness he displayed when giving me his recommendation as to which surgery he felt best suited me and my particular case. I am genuinely looking forward to developing a patient doctor relationship with Dr. Prachand because he spoke with me without any lack of confidence in either himself or myself in accomplishing successful and sustainable weight loss with the surgery. I felt the level of confidence he had in me to succeed and the fact that he thought I would do well with the surgery. There wasn’t even a ounce of skepticism. Thus far I everyone in the surgical weight loss program staff I have met are very nice. The entire group stress aftercare and there is a very well structured aftercare program in place along with the many levels of support. I believe that his beside manner along with his surgical competence are just a small portion of his many great attributes.

Dr. Prachand is really a great doctor. He is very positive, answered every question I had and I didn't feel any doubt about his skills. His office is in the University of Chicago hopital. His staff is very knowledgeable and are very particular in following their before and after care. He is very straight forward about the risks and what will happen if you don't follow his plan. It was very easy to call his staff and other doctors associated with Dr. P after my surgery even when I had little questions about aches and pains. I give my Doctor and his staff a 9.99! :D

One note: I would like to see a better follow up program for post ops. They do have support meetings, but I would rather see more resources for vitamin regimes, where to buy vits and proteins, and maybe more info on the types of proteins that are best suited for our new lives, and more resources for support like OH.

My first impression of Dr. Prachand was what a kind and caring doctor. Dr. Prachand is very soft spoken and has ezcellant bed-side manner. He reassured my mother and other family members when they met him the day of surgery. Dr. Prachand makes sure you know how important aftercare is in order have suggessful results. Dr. Prachand explained the risk of the surgery and recommened the one he thought would work best for me. All I can say is he was correct. The most valuable information he gave me was concerning what could happen when I returned to work. It was a bit difficult to asdjust to my new way of eating when I returned to work. I waould rate Dr.Prachand A+,

My first impression of Dr. Prachand was that he was reserved, but I love that he was very honest with me. He told me which procedure would work best for me. The initial procedure (lab band) was most likely not the best procedure for me considering the amount of weight I need to lose. I felt so much better because I had been feeling like such a loser and he seems willing to help me reach my goals.

What was your first impression of him/her? rnHe was very caring and thoroughly examined and explained my options. He did not push or pull toward one procedure over the other but he RECOMMENDED gastric bypass...he taylors it to your needs, abilities, and health status at the time of consultation.rnrnHow did your impression change over time? rnIt hasn't thus far...rnrnHow would you describe his/her office staff?rnJune Spight is THE BEST! Actually, everyone is really sweet but I've worked more closely with June throughout my process.rn rnWhat did you like least about him/her? rnWhat didn't I like? What does that even mean...rn:)rnrnrnHow much does he/she emphasize aftercare? rnEmpahsize on aftercare is crucial and they stress it often and repetitively so that we are able to understand how important follow the directions of your surgeon and staff are.rnrnDoes he/she have a structured aftercare program? rnHow did he/she address the risks of surgery? rnThe staff makes sure you are well aware of the benefits and the risks via classes, support groups (if you are able to attend), online videos and information, and face-to-face consultations and videos. They also make you go to myemmi.com to watch a movie about the procedure.rnrnHow would you rate him/her overall? rnOut of a highest possible 10 and a lowest possible 0, I rate him a perfect TEN pre-op..rnrnWhich is better, surgical competence, bedside manner, or are both great? rn

well my husband and I are both having WLS. We met with Dr Prachand last month to start the process. I was very impressed with how comfortable he made me feel. I had multiple questions and he never raced through them. He is very kind and wouldn't start with my next question until the first one was fully discussed...... It seems like he sat with me almost an hour!!! WOW!!! I've never known a DR to do that!!
