The VBG surgery he did on me back in 1989 was a newer surgery back then. I believe he did an excellent job on my surgery. It kept most of my excess weight off for 20 years until my gastroenterologist broke my band or broke something during an endoscopy with balloon dilatation, after which I gained all of my weight back that I kept off for 20 years.

Dr. Rout did not have a great bedside manner, but competence as a surgeon is much more important if you can't have both!

I had two surgeons involved in my care, Dr. Rout and Dr. Juan Cendan, as well as Sarah, thier nurse practioner. All three have been wonderful. i work with them, so choosing them for my surgery was a no-brainer. Even when I was having some pretty hideous complications immediatly post-op, they were both wonderful about spending time with my parents and explaining EVERYTHING that was going on. I know that helped my folks out a great deal and eased a lot of thier worry. I have been in and out of the hospital a few times since surgery and they've both been just as wonderful as at the start. The office staff has been good with me too, even tho they were in the midst of some structural overhauling. The risks of surgery were explained to me in great deal, even tho I knew plenty about the technical aspects. Despite the complications I would do this again, in a minute with these physicians.

My 1st impression of Dr Rout, he loves what he does, he wants to make sure the patient is aware of the work involved to make it work. Dr Rout came in a sat down- he asked me if I had any questions and then very patiently answered all of them. I did not feel rushed at all. I was further impressed by Dr Rout and his staff after my surgery- I did not have the bypass due to cirrois of the liver and he was very kind and personable to me and my husband while explaining what needed to be done next. The office staff was also very friendly and helpful. I followup with Dr Rout at 4 weeks post op. Not really sure about aftercare since I did not have the bypass.
I would rate Dr Rout at 9- rarely smiles but has a good heart.

I was very unhappy with Dr. Rout after my first consultation. I felt him to be very blunt and short, almost to the point of being rude, especially after he found out what I had eaten the day prior to my appointment. I believe to this day that this one incident resulted in my going through three months of weight-loss counseling with practice in all the different eating stages.

When I returned for my pre-op on May 19th, I found my first impressions of him were totally incorrect. He was actually friendly and answered all of my questions and drew everything out for me. Quite honestly, I was surprised.

I never had any problems getting in touch with his office staff or having them return my calls. They are quite busy and I found on my pre-op appt. that you can be over looked. My appt. was at 9:00 AM and we were not seen until 1:00 PM. If my husband hadn't kept going back and asking when I was going to be called, I am certain it would have taken much longer. But as they say, consider pre-op an all day affair.

The one thing I least liked about him was that he gave me the feeling that I would not suceed with this surgery during my first consultation. If only he knew how long I had fought and waited to get this surgery.

Future patients should know that he is very blunt and to the point. He makes sure you abide by all pre-requisites before surgery. I found him to be very informative and knowledgeable and a Fantastic surgeon. He is very emphatic with aftercare and the dietician from his office called to see how I was doing with the liquids.

I was given a booklet that explained all the different types of WLS surgeries along with the risks and complications, plus we discussed them before I had the surgery.

My surgeon has the highest rating popssible. I never had a doubt about his surgical competence; however I was greatly concerned about his bedside manner. However, I found his bedside manner to be quite efficient. I have no complaints of him concerning my hospital stay and if I had to do this all over again, I would definitely go back to him.

I thank him from the bottom of my heart for the kindness and support he has shown since my surgery and Thank God there were no complications.

If you are looking for a loving caring bed side manner this is not the surgeon for you! He is however a very skilled, very no nonsense surgeon. He is not friendly - he is very serious and very cut and dry. He explained the procedure and told me the risk. I trusted him and did not feel worried.
You don't see him much - all in all - I have probably seen him a total of 10 minutes - I am post op 3 weeks and feel great. I saw him the longest (5 minutes) back in Septemeber when he explained the procedure - after that I saw him once before surgury for a minute and twice after surgery - both very quickly. Which is fine with me - as long as he knows what he is doing inside me - I don't care about the aftercare.

Overall as a surgeon he is great at what he does - as a person - don't expect outgoing friendly behavior.

My first impression of Dr. ROut was great. He was very personable and knowledgeable. I enjoyed him asking me if I had questions. He joked and made me feel at ease.

His staff Judy in particular is not professioanl, several time when I called she was using profane language. She was not timely with prosessing paper work. I had to call everyday to see if they sent paperwork that had been in the office for two weeks.

Dr. ROut and his associates are great. If you can get beyond the unprofessionalism of his staff.

Dr. Rout and his was up front with the risks of the surgery. THey explained every detail. They expressed a concern for my anemia and would not perform the surgery until I got that under control.

At this point I am happy with them even with the slight problems with the office staff.

It took me a year to actually get to see Dr. Rout but it was worth the wait. He is very honest and right to the point. His staff seems to be over worked but Racheal and Judy are great.

I was a little scared at first to meet Dr. Rout because I had heard from a co-worker who had him as her surgeon that he had a bad bedside manner and was very blunt. So needless to say when I finally got to meet him, I was extremely nervous. To my surprise, he was the total opposite. He was very thorough in explaining the procedure and what it would do for me. He emphasized the fact that this surgery would be a "tool" to help me lose weight not a miracle cure. His staff overall was very friendly, especially his assistant, Judy. The only thing that I didn't like was the wait to actually see Dr. Rout. When I went for my two-month check up, Dr. Rout was pleased with my progress and told me that it was okay for me to start a good exercise program (which I had already started). I was happy that he was happy with my progress! For my six month follow-up I didn't see Dr. Rout but I saw one of his nurses, Kim Vaughn. She was so sweet and nice - she was very impressed with my weight loss. She counseled me on the importance of taking calcium supplements and zantac - (I had slacked off) - From that point on, I take all my vitamins, calcium and zantac faithfully. My overall experience with Dr. Rout and his staff was great. They have given me a second chance at life.

At first I thought Dr Rout was a Butt. I had to wait for 2 hrs in his office for my 1st appt, my 2nd appt, and my 3rd appt. Then I come to realize that is because he helps so many people. Just know that when you go , you will have to wait awhile but, for me it was worth it. I weighed 410lbs when my surgery was done in May. I know weight 235. I have less than 60 to go.
