I had been to so many other Dr. looking into WLS, I was afraid this was going to be another dead in...Boy, was I wrong...From the moment I spoke with Beth, Scheduling Coordinator, I knew this was the right group. Beth was very caring, and helpful.
It only took one week to get an appointment to see Dr. Mando...I fell in love upon meeting Dr. Mando, he is soft spoken, very gentle, kind, caring...He never made me feel bad about what I had allowed myself to become 515 lbs. He even told me I was one of his "average" size patience...I almost cried...how could anyone be that nice...Dr. Mando has always been wonderful, he has always been there when I needed him, he is just a phone call away...Dr. Mando believes in after care, taking care of you, your body and your mind...thats why his staff, has a Clinical Social Worker, Licensed, Registered Dietitian, and a Certified Family Nurse Practitioner, they are there when you need them, its wonderful. He has a very structured aftercare program for the first 2 years, then if you want to continue to see him yearly that is wonderful also.
Because of my size, Dr. Mando was very clear about what the risk of surgery could be...and yes it did scare me...but being alive at 515 lbs scared me more. My family and I believe that Dr. Mando is the best surgeon in the world...he kept me alive...
He has a wonderful bedside manner, he is an excellent surgeon, and a great person.
Okay, so I love him. He is wonderful and I tell him that everytime I see him. I never want him to forget...But he doesn't let any of it go to his head...he is still sweet, caring, not in a hurry...

My husband and I both met with Dr. Mando at the Lafayette for our first consultation. It was a little rushed because Dr. Mando had a flat and our appt. got pushed back. but the staff was great and I liked Dr. Mando.

Dr. Mando is a great guy who had no problem answering my questions. The staff is pretty cool , too.

Dr. Mando takes his time with you and explains things and answers your questions completely. His office staff has been fine (although they seem a little stressed and/or overworked). They seem to have a great aftercare program and his patient who are on the yahoo groups and on obisityhelp.com have been so very nice. I am impressed that Dr. Mando and Dr. O'Connell always operate together so you get two for the price of one (so to speak). I went to orientation with Dr. O'Connell and was impressed. He has been doing nothing but Bariatric Surgery for many years and really seems to be knowledgeable, patient, and understanding.
I have nothing but good things to say about them so far.

My first impression of Dr. Mando was that he had a very good business going! I sat in a room filled with both pre and post op patients and it was packed. When I did see him he seemed open and took the time to answer my questions. He seemed very sure and confident of himself and helped me feel safe.

It has now been 5 months since I had my surgery and I am delighted! I have lost 94 lbs and still going. I cannot imagine what I will look like in another year!

I attend the Renew support group meetings the last Tuesday of every month at Methodist Hospital at 7pm and these meetings having proven to be very helpful.

I have made many new friends through this process and highly recommend the Renew doctors and staff.

My first impression - he actually listened to me and let me ask as many questions that I wanted. He really seemed interested in me. He gave me a lot of encouragement and support. My impression never changed. His bedside manner was great.

His office staff was always helpful and gave me and other patients a lot of encouragement and help.

Dr. Mando emphasized aftercare everytime I had a visit with him. The aftercare program that was provided was very good. The support meetings I went to were very helpful. They helped you through the situation and to realize you were not alone.

I would rate Dr. Mando as a very caring and competent surgeon. I really don't recall any bad moments.

I started trying to have this surgery about 6 months ago. I finally have a date scheduled for 4/8/03. I'm really excited. I have only met Dr. Mando two times so I really don't know what to make of him. Both of the times were very brief. I do have confidence in his skills to perform the surgery however, so I guess that is what counts. My first impression of him was that the meeting was very short; he asked a few questions and he was gone; I really dealt more with his staff then I did him for the next few months. I met with him again today. Again the meeting was very short. I do like his office staff very much. They are very personable and very likeable. Heather is the backbone of that organization I feel. She really makes you feel welcome more then anyone there. Paula who I just met yesterday is nice also. Aftercare seems to be emphasized very much there, and it is very structured. You know exactly what to expect. Hopefully everything will work out for the best.

1/11/02: Scheduled for an informational seminar with Dr. Martin. Will post more after the seminar.

3/11/02: Scheduled for my first assessment with Dr. Martin's office for test. Not sure what to expect but its a step towards the surgery.

7/02: First attempt was denied due to contract exclusion.

8/02: 1st Appeal sent off. Dr. Martin's office has been very helpful with my appeal.

01/03: After a year and a half of fighting with BC/BS, I changed jobs. I still have BC/BS because its my husbands insurance. But I now also have Trustmark/American Lifecare threw my new employer, which is my primary insurance now. Trustmark treats obesity like it should be, a disease. So I when it becomes effective I will begin the process again.

02/03: I am now seeing Dr. Mando. I met him once when I was trying to get approved threw BC/BS. But I have a new consultation on 2-26-03 to get this thing moving again. My insurance will cover this with Medical Necessity. Which I have, so hopefully it will go threw without a problem.
