William Kastrinakis Bariatric Surgeon M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr. K is a great doctor! I only have positive things to say about him. I got approved right away after getting some testing done, and within 3 months I was given a surgery date. At north shore medical center in salem, ma they have a very strucured plan, both pre-op and post op, along with support group meetings. I have never felt alone in this process! And would recommend It highly to everyone.

Straight forward and professional. Wanted to share the risks and his reasons why or why not he will perform a surgery. My perception has not changed but I will add I have only met him once so far.
The staff was helpful. Nancy was the most upbeat and personable over the phone. Future patients should know that he is professional and not afraid to say NO WAY!! if he feels your risks are too great. I appreiciate that honesty. He emphasised the after care alot and that's why I am not going in to Boston. This program requiredsyou to agree to after care working out and meeting with nutrionists and nurses and the DR for atleast 12 weeks after plus support groups. I would say he exudes confidence and professionalism as of now, I can't judge the bedside manner but I'll let you know.

Dr Kastrinakis came highly recommended to me by my PCP and other gastric bypass patients in my area. When I met Dr. Kastrinakis, I felt that he was competent and professional. He was very confident that I would be a good candidate for WLS. Although he was willing to provide all the information I required and answer all my questions, I had done so much research on the subject before I met with him that I pretty much knew what I was facing. I found him to become more and more personable towards me after he got to know me better. I found his office staff to be capable and efficient. His practice is affiliated with the Salem Hospital's Comprehensive Surgical Weight Loss Program that is headed by Jane Christensen RN, a former gastric bypass patient. The program includes extensive evaluations for qualification and pretesting, a 13 week post surgical risk reduction, diet and exercise program, scheduled blood work to monitor for nutritional deficiencies, and monthly support group meetings, as well as regularly scheduled follow up visits to the surgeon.

Hello,
I first met with him about two years ago when I first thought about WLS although then I was not ready he was very nice and answered all of my questions. When I decided that I was truly ready for WLS I was happy to know I could still have him as my surgeon. After my surgery my husband could not get over the care I received both from the doctors and the hospital. Dr. K and his associates checked in on me often sometimes 3-4 times a day. Sometimes you have a question but forget to ask, well I didn't have to worry because I knew one of them would be in again later and would answer it then.

My first impression of Dr. Kastrinakis was that he was a gentle, caring man. If anything my respect for him has grown over time. He was a great surgeon and I would go back to him again in a heartbeat. He is always genuinely concerned about my progress and answers all of my questions. His office staff was great and I never had any trouble getting in touch with them. Dr Kastrinakis really emphasizes after care and Salem Hospital had a great program. Even after 9 months I still visit with them to tell them about my progress. I would highly recommend Dr. Kastrinakis and his staff to everyone. Completely positive reviews might be rare but this is definitely one of them. No complaints at all.

My first impression was that Dr. Kastrinakas is very competent in his abilities. He was friendly and seemed to genuinely care about his patients. He thoroughly discussed the risks of surgery. His staff is TOPS (especially Jane). Friendly, understanding, determined to help, always available for questions. The program at Salem Hospital is superb - great aftercare, including exercise programs, nutrition counseling and support group meetings. They have really tried to put together the best of everything to make the program work. My surgery went great! Dr. Kastrinakas is highly skilled. My scar is picture perfect, and much, MUCH smaller than I expected. He is also very kind. Guess I got lucky - competence and a great bed-side manner! I can't think of anything negative to say... Ok, here's one - they are very busy, so sometimes you have to leave a message on the machine. There is an emergency pager # though, and the doctor himself calls back as soon as he can even if it's not urgent. So we'll give it a 99.9% positive review...LOL!

He took a lot of time to answer my questions. The staff at his office were very accomodating. The aftercare program seems very comprehensive and I am sure it will help me a great deal. The risks of surgery were discussed with me, although no-one wants to think of them, he made them clear to me. I am confident in his work and he came highly recommended. I think surgical competence and bedside manner are both important.

My first impression was that he was very confident about successful surgery. The staff was busy but always cordial. I didn't like that he seemed rigid, not willing to chat, all business. I don't usually like doctors like that because I am a warm and fuzzy person but I was so impressed by his confidence in himself that I feel confident in the success of my surgery. He was recommended to me by one of his patients. Aftercare at the Salem Hospital in Salem, Mass. is intense. They are very thorough. Well, we discussed the risks of the surgery but I told him I had read it all on the Internet so he didn't waste a lot of time. I wish he had confidence and a bedside manner but I'll take the confidence every time.
