Alaska Regional Hospital Hospital
I had the most excellent nurses (Pam and Eric), and Emily was a delightful aide. At no point did I feel that I was bothering any of my personal care team. The front desk nurses than answer your the nurse button, however, sound annoyed, but NEVER did that make it to my room with my nurses and aide. My care lacked nothing but room space!
I can't tell you just how WONDERFUL the staff at the hospital was!! They were incredibly personable and made me feel instantly at ease. They were highly skilled in technical aspects of my care, and even took the time to inject a small bubble of lidocaine before starting the IV in my hand, to insure that it was painless.
They allowed my 2 year old to stay with me untill I was rolled through the door in to the OR, provided her with coloring books and crayons, and even finger puppets she was allowed to keep while we waited.
Once out of surgery and in my room they showed me just how to use my pain pump, explained that if I was still in pain to call for aditional medication, were timely in providing care and other meds, allowed me to get up and walk as I wished, and were never a nuisance.
I was upset that I woke up in so much pain coming out of recovery. And no one let my husband know I was out of surgery for almost 2 hours. He was very concerned. Coming out of recovery my bed was not plugged into the nurses call station. So when I needed them for the first time I had to call the hospital itself and ask for the nurses station. Thank God the phone was close to me. I was overall not a happy camper. I have to update and say that I did speak to an administrator and they did apologize for the problems I had and they did say they would be working to correct these issues.
