Columbia Greene Hospital

Columbia is currently undergoing renovations, causing parking problems, mess, and an unpleasant atmosphere. The renovations are definitely long overdue, it is not a modern looking place. I had all my pre-op done through the hospital and affiliates, and while never modern and bright in appearance, the care was good for the most part. Hospital staff seem caring but suffer from bureacratic tangles and seem bumbling at times. The hospital room was cramped, noisy and uncomfortable. The nurses were very nice. Some of the PCA staff were very irritating. The staff were busy, but always responsive. If a family member went to the station or I rang the bell, someone consistently showed up immediately. They obviously had respect for my doctor and communicated with him and his patient orders were followed up on right away. I would do it the same way if I had to do it over again, because of my choice of surgeon, but for anything else I'd pick a more modern hospital.

the hospital was a good place to be.

Old/somewhat dirty/smelled horrible no matter how much I sprayed/first 4 days I was in the private "bariatric room", after that I was moved to a double room, with tiny, extremely uncomfortable beds, and my roomate was going through heroin withdrawl and they wouldn't move me even though there was several empty beds for the rest of my stay in other rooms/Emergency room does not communicate directly with the hospital, and they are very un-equipped to handle overweight patients.

This hospital has the best icu possible. They were right on top of things and the people were friendly and great. On the fifth floor of the hospital is another story. The people are friendly as they can be but because they are alway in such a rush to help all the patients at once, and do thier rounds, you dont feel the friendliness as you do in the icu. But if you call them, they do come and they always make sure your not in pain.
