Forest Park Medical Center Hospital

My stay at Forest Park was wonderful. I was checked on constantly and my needs were never unattended. It was encouraging to walk the halls with people in a situation similar to mine. I felt very at home. I had wonderful nurses who changed my bedding several times due to me getting sick from the anethesia. They were changed at least 5 times. I was throwing up and urinating on myself due to the pressure of all the weight on my bladder but they never made me feel like I should be ashamed. They would wipe me down and just change my sheets. I believe that the quality of care that you experience depends on the individuals providing the care and I had excellent nurses therefore I had an excellent experience!!

I was happy with my post-op care. Pre-op was a different story. I wanted to cancel this surgery. I actually changed my mind while being transported to the OR. I made it very clear to the staff verbally by saying over and over that I had changed my mind by making ALL of the following statements, " "Don't touch me" "leave me alone" "I want to go home", etc. My surgeon was not there, I believe he was washing up preparing for surgery. Even though I told them WITHOUT ANY DRUGS IN MY SYSTEM that I no longer wished to continue they simply knocked me out and continued. I am now left to live life after a surgery I did NOT want and had taken consent away from. Again, I do NOT blame my surgeon as he had no idea. I am very upset with the fact I feel I was made to continue even though I told them I no longer wanted the surgery and had changed my mind. The pre-op staff and Anesthesiologist did not listen to what I wanted and for that I am forever stuck in a body I no longer want. I am in a deep depression from this and often have flashbacks when I see bright lights and have many nightmares. I would not wish this on anyone.

This hospital handles many bariatric surgeries, so you are attended to by nurses that are well-acquainted with the unique needs of patients, post-surgery. You feel comfortable, because there are many people there in your condition, and the staff is kind and only interested in your well-being. This means strict adherence to the surgeon's orders about medications, liquids, respiratory therapy, leg/foot pumps, and walking. Good job!
