Fort Sanders Parkwest Hospital Hospital

They seem understaffed. To start they were not very responsive to my needs (I would go hours before I would see staff) and at time even slightly dangerous (no one checked my vital signs once I hit the floor for over an hour, maybe even closer to 2 hours) or staff giving out incorrect information to the nurses (I came very close to calling my doctor to see if he could get them to help me when I thought I was having a serious problem and I couldn't get anyone to help me, come to find out the staff memebr who told my nurse that I needed her NOW told here the wrong room) But like every hospital they have the exception staff as well as the not so good. Their exceptional ones make to hospital shine overall.

The bariatric wing opened the day I had my surgery. The nurses didn't know how to lower the bed so my feet touched the floor when I wanted to get up. So, I had to slide over the side of the bed to get out and hang on to the side rails to get back in. The bed adjustment buttons were on the outside of the side rails and I couldn't adjust my own bed. Otherwise, things were OK.

Very competent. The hospital uses bariatric beds for the patients. I, however, wasn't given one of these due to the fact that I was on the 'smaller' side. Well one of the beds stayed in the hallway the entire time unused so I thought that would have been helpful in my recovery. Instead I had to twist and turn in order to stand up. That and they promised me more Jello and didn't bring it... those were my only complaints.

I was so very pleased with the staff and care. Have not been in hospital much, and this was very good experience all around starting with greeters at the door , the thoughful use of very large hospital gowns! thus keeping down the flashing others. All staff were busy but really careful with checking who you were,, their records to your braclet and verbal birthdate. The care once in the room was really great. To be as busy as they were , all made it seem as if they had good time for the patient. And all were in such good humor.
This is why all the "excellent" answers.

They were excellent about everything. Oversized chair for me to sit in, bariatric bed that had good controls and very comforatable mattress, They constantly asked if I needed pain meds and told me to call out to the desk if I needed any, plus they had free valet parking at the front entrance which was very handy for visitors. I give this hospital an A+ in grade.
