John T Mather Memorial Hospital Hospital

There were a few deficiencies
1) while my doctors said i should bring in my cpap, the staff wouldnt let me use it at first, even though the replacement had no humidifier. their cpap dried out my throat and made it hard to breathe. the staff gave me a real hard time about using my cpap and only when i threatened to leave the hospital did they relent. then the anasthesiologist came and said that there should have been no problem using my cpap.
2) the bed adjustment in the icu where i was stationed had no remote to elevate or lower the angle. i had to reach over in agony to make any change in position. a remote feature on the bed would have been very helpful.
3) i could not pee after the catheter was removed. every little drop burned like hell. i was not given any advice as to how to expidite this. only after speaking to an outside urologist was i able to be prescribed the over the counter med UROSTAT to relieve the intense burning, and he also said to take a hot shower or bath to relax the muscles and if it was allowed try to pee in the shower or tub.
also they gave me marinos italian ices which made me feel good.
overall nursing was very good except for the cpap problem until it was okayed. very caring and helpful. doctor presence was great. cardiologist, pulmonologist, surgeon, anasthesiologist all showed up often. anasthesiologist unusually detailed and masterful. covering cardio quite helpful in overall monitoring, pulmanologist great for comming by. and the surgeon stopped by at least 4-5 times which was very comforting.

The nursing staff was wonderful and very attentive. I never waited very long when I called upon them for assistance or pain medications. One of the nurses aids even saved some of my food in the frig for me to have later if I wanted. I thought that was nice. She didn't have to do that. My hospital stay was very relaxing esp because I had the room all to myself. I can't compare it to any other hospital stay since this was my first experience since birth. But I would recommend them highly.
