North Shore University Hospital - Manhasset (COE) Hospital
No respect for sleep , the 1st night your right in front of nurses station and they talk all night, in front of me, near my bed, people yell across floor, there were men workers laughing i prob feel alseep by 3 a.m.! I can tell you about all their lives they talked so much, but i'm the stupid one i never complained!
this hospital has atleast 4 surgeons that do WLS 3 times a week. They should have a couple of rooms for bariatric patient. If you need a wheelchair on the dpearture date make sure you call 3 hours before. Also if you have to make potty make sure you keep calling. The night staff was great and some of the day staff (lilly was great) was less to be desired. To make your spouse pay for parking when they are paying thousands in hospital stay is stupid.
I have been told so many times about the overworked staff of the North Shore Hospital. The suggestion of getting a private nurse was even put out there. Well, either many people were wrong, the hospital got better, or I had such a low anticipation of what to expect, but I thought the staff was FANTASIC !!!!
THE HOSPITAL IS UNDERSTAFFED...ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT!! I was on 2 Cohen (not the bariatric floor) and when the morning shift comes in they have a parade past all the patient's rooms with absolutely NO REGARD for the fact that you are trying to sleep. They are loud, unprofessional and really rude people. They yell up and down the corridors and when you ring for help they yell thru the microphone. The Nursing Assistants are so overworked that they get nasty if you ask them for something and the cleanliness of the room left a lot to be desired. As far as the surgery itself, I felt my surgeon and the operating room staff as well as the nursing staff in the recovery room where I spent nearly 36 hours due to complications were AWESOME.
I recommend NSUH highly. I was impressed they had high end bariatric beds which allowed you to go from a reclining postion to a seat position so you get out of the bed with minimal strain. Although not a drawback, but the nurses had to regulate the bed so they knew when you were up and about, or in the bathroom. Each time you got up they made sure the bed was tidy and clean before you went back into it. The nurses were awesome both day and nite!!!!! Only complaint I have was with the food the low sodium broth made me swell and feel sick. I had complications and had the best treatment from all involved in my care. NSUH is and will stay #1 on my list of hospitals
