Saint Mary's Hospital
This was my first experience with being inpatient at St. Mary's Hospital. Typically, I am a Spectrum Health kind of girl, so this was all brand new territory for me. And honestly, it was the best hospital stay I have ever had. My room was comfortable and the nursing staff was exceptional! Jen and Mollie were the two nurses that I remember most and they were very attentive to my needs in regards to pain relief, nausea relief and hydration needs. They had me up and walking every 4 hours after surgery, they were kind and motivating to get me up and on my feet (even when I didn't want to!). I loved the fact that my room was large and private, my Husband, Mother and both of my young children were comfortable.
My one and ONLY complaint was that they had a habit of leaving my door open. Typically, this isn't an issue, however when you are exhausted and want to sleep the light and noise from the hall and be annoying. But after I was up a few times and started to just crack my door, they followed suit and would ask if I wanted my door shut.
Honestly, I would HIGHLY recommend this facility to anyone who needs bariatric surgery.
This is where I had my plastic surgery done! This is the BEST hospital I have ever had to be a patient at! Everyone of the staff members were just amazing from the pre-op nurses to the nurses on the "short term" stay floor. My pre-op experience was the BEST pre-op experience I have ever had, specially Nancy my pre-op nurse who put in my IV!
The food was AMAZING! As a patient if you were on an un-restricted diet between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm you had a three page restaurant menu which you got to order for room service.
The hospital was clean and amazing! I just loved it and would never mind having to be a patient there again!!!!
My experience at St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Rapids, Mi was wonderful from the moment I was admitted. My pre-op nurse, Sandy, is my nominee for THE BEST IV inserter in the entire world. I am petrified of IVs because they always hurt going in and usually the entire time they are in. Not with Sandy ~ she's tops! She was very calming and reassuring during the entire pre-op preparations and made heading into surgery a lot easier than I had anticipated.
I don't really recall much after getting into the OR. I pretty much recall the next thing being back in my room and having to use the restroom. I was wondering why I wasn't in a great deal of pain but figured it would come after the meds wore off. I was never in much pain. By the second day, I had a reaction to the dilaudid and stopped using it. The lortab elixir tasted so horrid I decided I'd rather have pain. But, as it turned out, I didn't need it.
The nurses and PCAs were all very kind and understanding not to mention patient. I wandered the hall a lot at night so that I didn't run into traffic "jams" and they always had a ready smile on their faces at the sight of my IV pole and I making our way down the hall. I am trying to think of anything that was lacking during my stay. I appreciated internet access and, oh I know what I wished I could've had....a massage. But I was only in from Wednesday morning to Friday morning so they really only had the one day to arrange one which is not much notice so I can't fault them for that. Had I stayed longer, I'm sure I would've gotten it but there's no place like home. My post-op recovery was a breeze not only in the hospital, but continued after I returned home which I must attribute to the excellent hospital care and, of course, to my wonderful surgeon, Dr. Derek Nagle. An awesome combo! I would do it again in a heartbeat.
St. Mary's was great! The staff was great at letting me know what was going on each step of the way from pre-surgery to being released. The nurses were there right away if I needed there assistance. They continue to answer questions that you might have about medications that you are given. The bed was comfortable and it was great that my spouse could sleep in a fold out next to me. They understand where you are coming from, why you are there and make you feel very comfortable.
St. Mary's was fantastic. The room was beautiful and large. It was very comfortable. The nurses were very attentive and friendly. They have a nurse on staff that works closely with my Doctor's office and spent a lot of time during my stay educating me on what to expect. I felt like they went above and beyond and would recommend St.Mary's Hospital in Grand Rapids to anyone.

I had a great experience at Saint Mary's from the time I arrived at the hospital until the time I left. The rooms are new, clean, and private. They even have accommodations in your room if you wanted to have someone stay over night. The staff is on point! I recommend that during your walks you head up to the 5th floor for a few rounds it beautiful up there!
