St. Joseph's Area Health Services (COE) Hospital

It was clean, small but generally friendly. The anesthesia team were great! They really helped calm me down when I was freaking out right before surgery. The room I was in was large and airy, and the staff were thoughtful enough to shut the door to allow me more quiet time to rest. The nursing staff was good, minus one or two. But overall it's the best hospital I've been to yet.

The nursing staff were wonderful. They were always available to help, or to just listen to my concerns. They encouraged and reminded me to walk and use the breathing apparatus The first day when I was experiencing a lot of pain I kept forgetting to push my pain med button, and they would respectfully remind me of this when I complained of pain.

The people and the staff at the hospital were very nice and supportive. They were sensative to my needs and to my own uncomfortableness about my body and weight. I remember telling my husband that nobody has ever seen me naked so many times in 3 and 1/2 days and still been nice, supportive and sensative. Because of their attitude toward me, I had a better, more comfortable attitude.

The staff was fantastic. The rooms are kept too warm for my liking, but I just brought a fan. My care plan was explained well and followed. I didn't feel like I was a "fat" patient, instead, I felt a certain excitement from the staff for my journey towards better health. I never once felt that any staff member was disgusted by my weight, but rather, happy I was on a road to thin-ness and they gave many examples of people who had the same surgery and their progress (anonomously, of course)

I cannot recommend this hospital or it's staff highly enough. There is only one minor complaint - the dietary staff needs to be more creative with phase 1 RNY patients' food - I was absolutely sick of Cream of Chicken and Cream of Mushroom soup by the time I left after having it at EVERY MEAL EVERY DAY!!! Come on, guys, there's gotta be more VARIETY that us new post-ops can have!! But other than that, I cannot think of even one minor complaint about this hospital or its staff. They even beat the hospitals I've been in in my native Florida, including Pensacola's West Florida Regional Medical Center - and THEY are the best Florida hospital I've ever encountered!
