Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center Hospital
I am 11 days post-op for a Hiatal Hernia repare and Gatstric bypass. The overall experience was good not great. i had some complications after my surgery and was put in I.C.U. where they are anything but trained in bariatric care. I feel that my recovery was compromised by this. I also had a very hard time with depression after which they seemed to blow off. Care on the floor was great and the Nurses and CNA's would very good. the cafeiteria had some problems with what food I could have and sent the wrong food which in turned made me very sick. the people in charge of the bariatric dept. know there stuff but need to spread the word to other dep.s so they too can handle a patient if need be.The Surgion was wonderful as was his staff.
The doctor was sterling. The surgery was sterling. The CNA was already on probation and should have been fired. The nurses were barely there. No one monitered my voiding and I was told I needed to empty it myself. I was very unhappy with the after-surgery care. I was never ugly with the staff. Maybe I should have been more aggressive but I was just in pain and wanted to sleep.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Bariatric Surgery Program at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center has been designated a Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC) Center of Excellence for Bariatric Surgery.
The Centers of Excellence program focuses on appropriate patient selection, comprehensive pre-operative evaluation, excellent surgical outcomes, careful and long term post-operative support and follow-up, and continuous improvement of care, outcomes and patient satisfaction.
The program is based on information collected from Surgical Review Corporation (SRC) and BCBSNC claims data with input from BCBSNC’s Bariatric Physician Advisory Panel.
The Bariatric Surgery Program at Wake Forest Baptist is headed by surgeon Adolfo “Fuzz” Fernandez, M.D., who is fellowship-trained in bariatric surgery
The surgeon arranged for his patients to be in a special wing of the hospital. The rooms are private and the staff is wonderful. The beds are big and they gave me a great big reciner that was great also. The worst part is that this hospital is a teaching hospital - (tied in w/ Wake Forest) and there is always a crowd when rounds are being made. But I think if I would have asked my Dr to leave the group outside, he would have been more than accomidating.
