I was so impressed with Dr. Shewmake. I choose this surgeon based on his credentials and professional reputation. He was named one of little rocks top surgeons, he graduated from a "solid" medical school (did I mention we attended the same undergraduate (Hendrix College). Years of experience and professional interest beyond medical school has also been exceptional. What I did not bargain for or actually expect, was his bedside manners. This man exudes genuine care, concern, and warmth. Before surgery I was feeling really nervous, he came in and went over the standard medical information: what to expect, did the cosmetic markings, and answered questions. Then he did the unexpected, he asked if we wanted to pray, that was the moment that I felt at total peace.
As a patient, thank god I found this man. He was a good fit for me, as a professional and practitioner myself, I strive to always see my clients as people, as individuals, as Dr. Shewmake saw me.

I have been very impressed with Dr Shewmake. He is a very nice man that has taken the time to fully explain the procedures I am interested in and while my first procedure did have a minor problem he responded very quickly and got everything straightened out. I still plan to go forward with the additional surgeries I have planned with Dr Shewmake. I think his technical skill is very good and he has a very nice and understanding demeanor. I have been very impressed.

I was told by Dr. Shewmakes office staff that all the insurance he accepts is Medicare and Medicaid. I wasted 4 months waiting to go back to him to be scheduled for surgery and then was told not to bother coming back if I didn't have approximately $20,000 cash to pay up front because he would not do my surgery without pre-approval and Arkansas Medicare does not give pre-approval and he would not do it without pre-payment. If he only deals with Medicare and Medicaid, it sure seems to me he would have known that Medicare does not give pre-approval and he could have told me that at the first visit so I could have been finding a surgeon who cared more about the patients and less about the money.
