Low Blood Surgar Almost 4 Years Out?

I have always had migraines and have used Imitrex (sp) successfully for years now until 2 weeks ago. I recently had a 5 day migraine on day 4 I went to ER because the "feeling" of the migraine changed, they did a CT and all was normal so they chalked it up to just a bad migraine and sent me on my way.  On day 6 the migraine had subsided however I had a follow up with my primary doc (would have gone sooner but massive snow storm)  she thought perhaps I was anemic so although she switched my migraine meds she also drew lab.  I got a call yesterday that my sugar was super low (46) and I had ate a good breakfast prior to the appt and now they want to do a fasting test and glucose test.  All my other lab work was fine (protien a lil on the low side for me but not horrible)

Has anyone else heard of having issues with blood sugar this far out?  I've not had any complications and typically feel really good!  Lately though I have been super stress and admit I've been eating the best, but not horrible either, I also have been having a horrible time sleeping.  Any thoughts or ideas?  I searched before posting but most of what I found was more than 4 years old and mostly RNY folks so I wanted to ask fellow DSers.

It's very uncommon but I guess not unheard of.  I don't recognize your surgeon as being a DS surgeon though.  I would think being 3 years out, I would have heard of her.  Are you sure you didn't get a ERNY?

Yes I'm positive that I have the DS.  My surgeon although not as well known is one of 2 in that practice in Topeka that do the DS.

Bernita Berntsen is one of the surgeon's at St Francis at Tallgrass Bariatric. She is laparoscopic specialist. Her and my surgeon Dr Dunshee often work together on DS patients. On my surgery, Dr Berntsen and Dunshee both were billed as the surgeons and I have the bill to prove it. I believe that Dunshee and Berntsen are the only surgeons in the practice that do DS.

Docputer is correct. These were my surgeons as well. Only ones in this area to do DS.

Please keep us updated on what you find out. I don't have any information for you except that when I have low blood sugar due to insulin use, I cannot sleep. I am diabetic with consistently high blood glucose if untreated.

PS Yes, 46 is extremely and very dangerously low. You should not drive or be on you own if this is your level. Do you have a home tester?

Not I don't have a home tester.  This has all been news to me and all my doc told me to do was go in or the follow up labs with the fasting and glucose test (where they have you drink stuff then take your blood every hour)  I will keep you updated I just wasn't sure what I should be doing in the meantime since I am careful about what I eat ext.

Hey there friends! I don't mean to hijack this thread. But I have been hoping to find some patients of Dr. Bernsten's patients. What has your experience been like? She is very matter of fact. How long is your common channel and do you have issues in the bathroom area? I'm on my second appeal and there just doesn't seem to be much urgency from their office.....but maybe I'm just being impatient. More questions - have you been successful with your weight loss? Any complications? If you didn't live in Topeka, did you have to stay at a local hotel for a few days?

Okay, that's it for now. Please PM me if that's better for you all. I'm excited to see some of Dr. Bs patients!

Search "low blood pressure & DS" on this site because I know I have read about people having low blood pressure. It may have been on the proboards site. Someone posted about actually fainting from low blood pressure (was it Southernlady?). Good luck and I hope you get it figured out quickly.

Funny thing is my blood pressure has been normal and fine its my blood sugar that is low they even took it right before they took the lab and it was normal.  In fact my blood pressure has always been great even when I was overweight.
