Has anyone had WLS surgery from Dr. Weaver?

I am not familiar with this surgeon but know of several people from the Kzoo area who have had their surgeries through GHP. Have you checked the OH area where people have given ratings of their surgeons?

Good luck finding info.

I went to Dr Weaver's seminar and was impressed with him.  I ended up going with Dr. Verseman mainly because Dr. Weaver's home hospital is Bronson.  Because I work at Borgess I cannot have my surgery at Bronson.  Although Dr. Weaver will go to Borgess I always think it is best when a doc works with the surgical crew he is used to.  I did like him very much though when I heard him at the seminar.  I think, as I recall, he hails from the Cleveland Clinic.

Yes.  I met him in the emergency room at Bronson when my band slipped.  He took it out.  I've been talking to him about the RNY.  I like him, personality-wise, a lot.  Did you have the RNY?

Yes...I had rnine on Jan 22.  It is still a little rough....but getting better.  Eating is not fun...hopefully it will be tolerable eventually. I am really glad I did it.  When did you have your band placed? A friend of mine had one that had to be taken out also. I don't know of anyone who has had dr weaver, but you might find someone who has at one of the support group meetings.  YOu might also check in the ohio group and see if anyone is familiar with him.  The thing I did like about him is he determines on a case by case basis (based on what I am not sure) ,where on your intestine he places the Y. Verseman does a prescribed 21 inches...I am not sure if weaver would have placed mine differently.  I am so far very happy with my surgery.

I had my band in December 2004 done at Spectrum Health in GR.  The practice split off and became their own unit about a year later.  I was one of the first people to get banded by them, they had a specialist fly in from Kentucky to walk the surgeon through it.  For fills and follow ups, it was a pain to drive up their, especially when things stopped working.  (It did work fine the first year and a half, I lost about 100lbs, but after that I had a few instances of intense heartburn and started going up for a fill, than an unfill, then a fill, and nothing worked the same).  Dr. Weaver told me my band probably slipped years ago and that's why I started gaining, which helped make feel like less of a failure.  I was disappointed with the follow-up care I got in GR. It was like once I got the surgery no one cared what happened to me. I am hoping for better closer to home.

I think being close would make a huge difference.  I considered getting the sleeve, but DVerseman said the RNY is better for post menopausal women.  Plus...being 55 I felt it  was better to go for the rny since I don't have a lot of time for more surgery later on. I know many people who have had both.  People with rny lose more than those with the sleeve, but the real work will begin 1 year post. Hopefully I will develop the good eating habits I need to become a long term success.
