Can you believe it? I got my approval for surgery finally!

I met with Dr Glazer, the risk assessment specialist, at TWH on Tuesday & after reviewing my file, he started telling me which medications to stop taking before surgery.  I was so confused that I had to ask him - "Dr Glazer, does this mean that I'm actually having my surgery"? He looked at me and said, "Oh, yes". Well, knock me over with a feather - I was dumbfounded that it was decided, just like that. He wasn't even very concerned about my untreated sleep apnea, which really surprised me! The only thing he wants is a new Echocardiogram and Stress Test and a note from my cardiologist stating that I have his approval for surgery. I will get these things done & fax the results to him. I'm just waiting for Sandra to call me with my actual surgery date and I just received my Optifast a few minutes ago, so I guess that it's for real!

I also was lucky enough to be able to meet with Dr Jackson - what a terrific guy he is! Besides being one of the best-looking men I have ever seen, he was so warm and welcoming & made me feel very comfortable. He explained everything to me in detail and answered all my questions and then I signed the surgical consent forms. I had already asked my doctor to set me up with a scope because I was having trouble swallowing at one point recently, so I may have to delay my surgery for a bit, although my scope is not until Apr 20 & I don't think that my surgery will be before then, especially since I have to take Optifast for 4 weeks. I just want to make sure that there are no problems with my esophagus or stomach before I go ahead with surgery.

I'm having trouble believing it and haven't gotten too excited - I think because there have been so many problems and delays. I feel like they are going to call me back & say that they made a mistake & that I can't have surgery after all - crazy thinking, huh? I'm sure that once I get these tests over with and know that all is well, then I'll get really excited. Lord knows, I want this more than anything & I'm prepared to do anything and everything to make sure that this is a success! I am so grateful to be given this chance at a new, healthy life and I will not mess it up!!!! There are so many things on my "bucket list", from going to my 6 year old grandson's sporting events to bike riding with my husband to going shopping with my daughter - simple things but things I can't do now due to mobility issues.

Thanks for all your support - I'm lucky to belong to a group of such great people!!!!

OMG  Congratulations!!!  Having the Optifast in your hands is proof positive that you are on the brink of something great :)  Deb you have been so patient through all last year.  I am praying that you get a surgical date for May so you can rest and relax during some great weather, and that any outstanding issues are finalized.

**big hugs** to you, you deserve it!
