Got a date! 2 Questions :)
Hello Everyone,
I am so excited I can hardly express!! I have a surgery date of Oct 13th!!! I am a bit anxious and have a few apprehensions that I'm hoping you guys can help me out with. I have GERD / acid reflux and I want to know if anyone else has gone through the sleeve with this same issue. Has it helped any.. my fear is that a tiny tummy will make it worse.
Can you guys share.. what your biggest apprehension post OP was?
and
What is the one thing that makes you LOVE your sleeve now?
Thanks
Deneb

Congrats on scheduling the sleeve! I can't help with the GERD issue, but I'll take a stab at the other two.
The post op thing that worried me the most was fixing the mental part of food since the surgery was not on my brain. I am working through those mental head hunger issues each day and I'm learning a lot about myself. Work in progress!
I love my sleeve now because even when I go off-track, I can only eat a little bit. So there's a limit to how off-track I get. I know my sleeve will be there and it's saved me a few times already. And overall it's been kind to me - no vomiting, foamies, etc.
I highly recommend reading back through all the posts as far back as you can. I spent 6 months reading every post before my surgery so that I could learn as much as possible. There's a wealth of historical information on here and it's super helpful.
Good luck!

Hi,
I also can't help with the GERD question. I have had it a few times before my surgery but it was never chronic. Also,my only side effect is some reflux but I take a pill and it goes away.
The biggest apprehension I had was that for some reason it wasn't going to work for me. I actually still can't believe what has happened in a very short 3 months!! Nothing short of a miracle but I thought I have tried everything and failed why would this be any different! Well it has been completely different! Its amazing really!!
The thing I like the most is the control!! I feel like I am always in control of what I eat. I feel like if I eat something off plan that it will be okay. This sleeve is such a wonderful tool! Honestly sometimes I sit around watching everyone else eat and I am amazed at how much I used to eat right along with them. I honestly feel that the amount I am eating now (3 months post-op) is how people should eat but don't. I just feel great!!

Hi. YAY for a surgery date!!! I know how exciting that is!! I am just under a month out from surgery, so I am still in the learning stages too.
I have bad GERD & acid reflux as well. To be honest, the day after surgery was terrible. I had acid sitting in the back of my throat all day, even from water. NOTHING was helping. Then suddenly the next day, I was able to find some relief. Also, my doc allowed me to have (skim) milk 2 days after surgery, which I believe also helped the GERD. Because I couldn't take my Prilosec, I started Pepcid Complete chewables. They aren't as good as Prilosec, but got me through fairly well until I could start taking my Prilosec again. After I started taking my Prilosec again, I've been able to manage my GERD & reflux just fine.
I love my sleeve because it's helping me limit my intake, something I was never able to do before (honestly, mostly due to lack of willpower.) I am thankful that I have a tool that now physically limits my consumption (when my mind alone, couldn't) and is actually helping me lose weight at the same time. The sleeve is a wonderful invention!!
Good luck on your surgery! Sending get well vibes to ya!!
