600 - 800 calories, really?
My surgeon's plan requires neither of those restrictions.
I have lost 105 pounds in 7 months and never counted carbs or limited my calories to 800. I am losing slowly (15 to go) on 1300-1700 calories, but I do exercise pretty intensely, and I do try to eat mainly protein, fruits and veggies.
My advice is to follow your surgeon's plan and not let people here make you feel guilty for doing so.

That is so not fair. I haven't seen anyone doing any such thing!
the biggest reason to eat 600-800 cals a day is to force your body to burn your stored fat. the more ready fuel you give it,esp carbs, the less stored fat it will burn.
Burning the stored fat,is after all,how we lose weight.
We are not "confined" to anything. you just have to use your sleeve as a tool to get the results you want.
