The sleeve and blood pressure.

How did getting sleeved affect your blood pressure?

I was really surprised at how my body reacted to surgery.  I used to take 160 mg. of Diovan.  I've been  taking blood pressure medication for 17 years.  The last day I took blood pressure medication was the day I had surgery.  My primary care physician took me off all blood pressure medication.

Is this common?  Did it happen to you too?  Has anyone ever read why surgery causes this to happen?  I think it's bizarre... and it really brings home the fact our bodies are changed after surgery.

Just curious .. have you had your BP checked since you went off the medicine/surgery?

Yes!  My blood pressure has been checked every day since surgery, and I had to keep a record that my doctor reviewed.  He also told me if my blood pressure went up, I was to see him immediately.  It never went up, it has been low.  My primary care physician had two appointments with me since surgery just for blood pressure.

He told me yesterday I have to continue checking it,  but now only weekly. My next blood pressure check with him is in 3 months.

I was sleeved on 4-23 I took my meds morning of and didn't take it again until I got home 3 days later... It was still lower than it usually is but I'm hoping to come off of it soon.  I also take same meds but higher dose. good luck!

Hello there.  I'll preface with I have never had an issue with my b/p.  After VSG, for many months, my b/p was extremely low.  Like 70/40 for example.  It's still low normal and I feel slightly dizzy going from a sitting to standing position.

Congrats on your surgery!

Thanks Jennifer.

My blood pressure is low, or maybe just normal.  The bottom number is low to mid 70s.

My surgeon told me in the hospital that I would never need blood pressure medication again.  He told me this when I asked him about it, bcos I didn't understand why my pressure was so low.

I was on a higher dose of meds too, at 160 mg.

I was on BP meds before surgery - now my BP is below average.

I've read a bit on it - but I'll be honest - I'm feeling pretty lazy tonight. :(

Good post and good question. I am on 3 meds for HBP and 1 for high cholesterol so I am hoping this procedure will take care of both for me and that I can stop taking all my meds eventually.  Just one of the many, many reasons I want to do this.  Thanks for your post and all the helpful replies.
