I had the vertical sleeve 3 years ago. A year after my surgery I starting getting pain in my upper stomach and back. Its a horrible pain where I feel like I cant breathe or speak. It usually happens after I eat. It happens about once a month. Sometimes twice. I was wondering if anyone has had this experience. Some people have told me it might be my gallbladder but others have said that it might be that my organs are full of air from the organs. Is that possible so long after surgery?. Can it actually be my gallbladder? Thanks in advance for any input

Kelly when my gallbladder was bothering me, I felt it in my upper-stomach, my back and under my shoulder blade in the back. You should probably have it checked out right away.

Definitely NOT air from original surgery. Your body is like a sponge and would have absorbed all of that within a week or so, if not faster. The location of the pain could be several things. It could indeed be your galbladder, but the pain in your upper abdomen AND back makes me almost think pancreas. Have you ever had a history of pancreatitis? Honestly, it could also be your heart. I'd check in with my PCP if I were you. Better to be safe than sorry.

Please don't substitute my judgment for your own. I'm not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV ;) I do have some medical training, but just enough to make me dangerous!

Sounds like gallbladder. Gallbladder issues after surgery are VERY common, so much so that I was told if the surgeon suspected you have issues before the surgery, they might remove your gallbladder during WLS. With my surgeon, if you have your gallbladder, they prescribe a specific drug to possibly prevent issues.

I had my gallbladder out a few years ago, before the surgery, but the pain you're describing is exactly what I felt when I had an attack.

Another vote for gallbladder. You definitely want to get that looked at. I had mine out about 5 years ago as it started attacking me during my first pregnancy. You don't want to wait, because the gallbladder and the pancreas both somehow use the central bile duct (I'm not a doctor!), and you can have a very bad complication with the pancreas. Get that checked out right away!!!!

Good luck!!
