Capacity at 1 year
Just an informal poll. What was your caracity at 1 year? I'm cruising toward my surgiversary. My capacity is 3-4 ounces max if it's a slider food
3 ounces if it's ground meat and veggies or tuna. It can also be 2 ounces if it's steak or chicken breast.
My surgeons office seems to think my capacity should be 8 ounces at 1 year but there is no way I could do it.
Thanks, kathy
I think I'm between what your surgeon's office wants and what you can do, probably closer to your end of the scale. Today I made loaded scrambled eggs for lunch, with these ingredients:
--l medium egg + 1 egg white
--1.5 ounces avocado
--1.5 ounces grilled salmon
--1 tablespoon shredded swiss cheese
I could barely eat half of it. My dog was a happy camper.
8 ounces of what? I can do an 8 ounce protein shake no problem! 8 ounces of steak? Even with my large sleeve and tall frame no can do. I am not even sure if I can put down 8 ounces of cottage cheese, but pretty sure I could do 6 ounces of it. Slider foods can be eaten voraciously though... dry cookies, ice cream, crackers... I can do a lot of damage.

And there-in is the lesson to be learned here folks- capacity....just what type of food-stuff....Give it up! Stop trying to manipulate and play the game... That's what got us there in the first place.....Some protein first, then good for you carbs, then maybe fruit and , occasionally , whole grain carbs here and there.....Trying to manipulate food is what got us there in the first place... got to stop it....

At one year, I could eat 6 to 7 ounces. I eat 3.5 ounces of dense protein, and add 2 to 3 ounces of veggies per meal.
It sounds like your capacity is significantly smaller than mine.
best of luck,
Carol

Your restriction is actually smaller than you think......
By volume those 2-3oz of veggies chew down to less than half

Your "Golden" !!!
The key is to have it not increase to much by 2 and 3 years.
This procedure has several components to it with restriction/capacity as a major one.
Looking at the big picture, sure the VSG is about WL initially but retaining restriction and a small capacity for the long haul is really what this surgery is about.
It would be very hard to maintain being able to eat 8oz for *most, it would just be way to easy to go over in calories.
* Some people can.

I haven't really tested my capacity, but I did have one egg with 1 oz of ham for breakfast yesterday. And when they accidentally gave me a regular roast beef sandwich instead of a junior at Arby's I couldn't finish the meat. (I just pick the meat off the buns. I get looks but don't care.)
