heartburn
Most of us are told to take something like Prilosec or Nexium twice a day for several months after the surgery and once a day for life to control acid, since our stomachs are now so small. I'm surprised your surgeon didn't tell you this. Get on a regular regimen of any of the OTC acid reducers, and that should do the trick. I was told taking Tums or something like that to address the immediate problem of heartburn wouldn't be a problem. I don't know about Zantac.
Tums is a bad option since it's calcium carbonate which isn't good for us. But getting on a PPI is great.

Absolutely - do not try and live with this or ride it out. Excess acid is very corrosive to the stomach (causing ulcers) and can damage your esophagus, leading to esophageal cancer.
You should get on Zantac or something else more powerful for this. Start off with something OTC right now and talk to your doctor ASAP.
