frustrated, losing slow

Frustrated. I am almost 6 weeks out from my vsg surgery. I am only down 22lbs. Day of surgery I weighed 264, now I'm down to 242. I feel a twinge of failure and like I'm doing something wrong. my doctor had told me, my weight would melt off, maybe that's just stuck in my head.

So, as much as I told myself I wouldn't freak out about stalls and such after surgery…..I lost 10 lbs the first week and then nothing for 3.5 weeks. I was super frustrated. But then things started picking up and I have been losing about 10 lbs a month since. I want that to be encouraging but I'm not sure it will be because you're already way 'ahead' of where I was at 6 weeks. My question is…..how is 22 lbs in 6 weeks NOT melting off? When have you ever lost that much in that amount of time before? You're doing really well….its a repetitive WLS cliche but its true-work your program and it will work. 

The first month and a half really played mind games with me. Try to stay encouraged-you're doing great and I'll bet people are telling you look good. Keep pushing forward!

Thank you for the encourgement. I appreciate it. & That might be the problem too, a couple years ago I lost 30lbs in a month on my own, with low carb & exercise, so I'm just sabotaging myself by thinking, "hey I lost 30 on my own, and can't even reach that after surgery". Granted I gained all that weight back, and hope to not gain this weight back. I know its going to be a long road! :)

I agree, some people are too hard on themselves, that's a lot of weight lost.

Did you lose weight pre-op?  I lost nothing pre-op.  I think that counts for something...just keep to your plan.  You *will* lose weight.  xoxo

I'd say you are doing great. I am about 8 weeks out and I've lost 27 lbs. For me, that is really good. I've never been able to lose more then two pounds a week in the past. I have to keep reminding myself that we are all different and it depends on how much weight you have to lose. I believe 1.5 - 3 lbs a week is a healthy weight loss. For me, I'm thrilled with the scale moving in the down direction.

 I was down to this weight 3 years ago so, i thought that the jeans that I purchased at that time should fit right? Not! I still can't close them yet I am the same weight so I think our bodies need to adjust etc. I see and am happy with the little changes like my face looking a little thinner, or my shoulders appearing, or my legs looking smaller. 

You are doing great, be happy and push forward.

Speaking of losing...it seems that since I have aged by body has changed with wt loss.  This is the first time I have lost in my arms and legs first.  Usually, my abd is the first to go.  Not so now. My pants are way loose in the legs before they are able to be zipped.

Oh the changes when post-menopausal...TMI for the guys!  Sorry

Just glad to be on the way down in wt.  This surgery is way better than I expected.

Yup, the belly holds onto fat because that houses some extra estrogen for us post-menopausal women.  Sad but true - the belly fat will be the absolutely LAST to go :-(

I agree with the other posters.You are doing great. Please start writing down your NSVs too (Non-Scale Victories such as behavior changes which support weight loss, clothing sizes down, ways you can move more). These are measures of success as much as the scale is! :-)
