I had same-day outpatient surgery, but although I felt great my doc kept me at the facility overnight because my blood oxygen level was a bit low and the doc wanted it to normalize before letting me go.  I felt fine though and could easily have gone home.  Was out the door less than 24 hrs after showing up.  No problems at all.

I was same day.  In at 7am and headed home at 4pm.  I had no issues other than 1st few days (4) pain in tummy area especially the sight where the tummy is removed.  I have read others posts and realized how lucky I was.

I guess it depends on the individual not sure.  I am 1.5 years out and lost 115 lbs.  best of luck to you

Honestly I think I would have been better off going home same day.  They pester the crap out of you in the hospital.  I was eatting ice chips, sipping water and walking hours after surgery.  I had to get help every time I had to go to the bathroom because of all the stuff they had on me which was a pain but they wouldn't take any of it off.  My doc gave me liquid pain killers which worked so much better than the morphine pump did anyway.

My surgeon does outpatient VSG. I opted NOT to do that, even though I have no comorbidities.

My surgeon doesn't do this, but he said he thinks he is close to being able to selectively send people home day of.  It would have made it cheaper, overnight in the hospital is expensive.  And I didn't need to be there, it was just misery inducing, and they didn't have a room for me so I had to stay in recovery for 7 hours which was super uncomfortable.

I will agree with the comments about them pestering the crap out of you in the hospital.  It seemed every time I fell asleep, someone else came in to wake me up for something.

The surgeon I am going to use in November does outpatient VSG surgery. I asked a lot of questions about it and was told that it depends on how the surgery is performed whether or not you can go home same day. My surgeon has been doing VSG surgery as outpatient for years and he has a very low rate of complication. Good Luck!!

I have a cousin who did this here in Las Vegas..... (I went out of the country for mine.) The surgeon did this more for the patients saving money on hospitalization/care.... I think it's pretty scary to go home same day.

I cannot imagine having to have gone home the same day as my procedure.  I still was kind of groggy and unsteady from medications and the general anesthesia on top of it.  I was very sore and the hospital bed was helpful.  I still had a drain in and an IV with fluids.  I stayed in the hospital for two nights.  I could see perhaps one night, but even then that would be pushing things.  Is this a definite thing or is it that it is one day, same day release for select patients based on how they are post op?
