21 lbs is fantastic!!! I found that the weightloss is too inconsistant for goals. For example, just recently Nov 1st I was excited because I weighted 222 and got into a size 18 jeans. On Nov 14th, I still weighed 222 but was fitting into a size 16. I wouldn't have hit a pounds lost goal but I wouldn't have cared. For now just go with the flow

You may never lose 21 pounds in one month again. I lost 24 in my first month, and I was probably a lot bigger than you are.

Keep your calories as low as you can. Try to make your food mostly protein and low/no carb. Drink a lot. Walk. If you do all of that, you will lose as much as you are capable of losing.

Highest weight was 475. RNY on 08/21/12. Current weight: 198.

Thank you for your advice. I started walking on Monday. Keeping my carbs at 20 grams a day. Still learning how to count calories. What about fat is that a big factor too?

21 pounds is great - it was more than I lost in that timeframe and I was delighted just to see the numbers go down. Congrats!

Rather than a weight goal I would say set a goal to walk or do some physical activity for xx amount of time each day or commit to tracking your food (using scales to ensure you get used to the right volumes over time). The head stuff is the hardest for the first few months so focus on these and the rest will come. Good luck

Walking is now part of my daily routine. I can even park 2 and a half blocks away from my office and walk without stopping . I am also using a scale to measure out my foods.

Fantastic.  Sticking to these are what will bring you success. I know it is hard but by focusing your attention away from the numbers on the scale and on to other NSV's like measurements, dropping a clothes size, being able to walk further or longer, is going to be a better representation of your journey and give you more to celebrate along the way :)

Losing 21 pounds in a month is AWESOME!!!  Follow the food plan.  That's the goal.  The little pluses are how the fit of your clothes change, how it isn't hard to breathe when you bend over to tie your shoes, or your waist band is slipping down on your hips.  One think I notice is that I can reach further up and down my back easier to scrub my own back!!!  Little victories that matter to us alone are the most important!!!

CONGRATS!!!

Funny you say that about your back, same thing happened to me I can reach! i can also put on my socks without a struggle. I guess i got to carried away with the numbers on the scale.
