Protein, protein, protein

So now that I am officially a month out of surgery! Woot woot! My doctor told me I need to really concentrate on my protein intake. He says 70 grams a day but that almost seems impossible. So I was wondering how much protein do you guys get in a day and what are you guys eating to do that?

I still drink a Premier Protein drink everyday for 30g. At 4 weeks it's hard to get a lot of protein through eating, so choose wisely. Greek yogurt has a lot, tuna, chicken if you can have it (make it moist and maybe mashed up in a chicken salad)... It gets easier!

Right now I'm getting close to 100 due to upcoming plastic surgery. But prior I was getting 60-80. For me it's a shake a day for breakfast plus two meals with 3-4 ounces of protein. Fish, chicken, cow, and pig are all good sources. If you prioritize protein and keep your carbs low, it's not a super challenging goal to hit.

Hi Gwen.

How are you doing with the binge eating and taking vyvanse? I started Vyvanse about a year ago but struggling around 8:30pm.

I get 80-90g per day and about 650 calories (4 1/2 months out). I eat yogurt, meat, cheese and drink a daily premier protein. So I'm getting 50-60g from food and the other 30g from my protein drink. I am lifting weights 3 days per week and interval running and feel good, so I think I'm ok with my current intake.

Edited to add: when I say I eat yogurt, meat (and fish), and cheese...I literally mean that's pretty much it. I eat veggies very occasionally (1-2 bites at dinner sometimes), fruit almost never and grains not at all so far. If I ate more of those foods I could not get in the protein required.

A lot of it may depend on what food stage you are in. Here is a sample menu from my food diary when I was in soft foods:

Breakfast: 1 T. peanut butter stirred into 2 oz Greek yogurt (130 calories, 11 grams protein)

Lunch: 1.5 oz tuna salad, 1 baby bel cheese, 2 prunes (160 calories, 15 grams protein)

Dinner: chicken meatballs, refried beans w/ cheddar cheese (210 calories, 15 grams protein)

Snacks: 2 small protein shakes, total 180 calories, 32 grams protein

Totals for the day: 680 calories, 73 grams protein

Bonus: each meal had some amount of fiber in addition to being high protein.

I'm a month out too. I get at least 70 a day.

I also have a shake each morning for 30 grams. Then I eat a combination of these items:

cottage cheese

cheese

chicken

tilapia fish

canadian bacon

turkey kielbasa (my favorite right now)

hard boiled egg

tuna (pouch)

oikos triple zero Greek yogurt

I'm 5 1/2 months out and I get 60-80g a day. I have a premier shake (usually for breakfast or lunch) and then dense protein for my other meals and occasional snacks. I often eat shrimp, tuna, chicken, salmon, canadian bacon and hamburger. I also like pretty much anything dairy.. cheese, cottage cheese, greek yogurt.

A typical day for me is..

B premier shake or Canadian bacon and egg whites

L tuna pouch or leftovers from last night's dinner

D grilled/baked meat and occasionally a bite of whatever veggie I make my family

If I was able to have a full premier protein shake in the morning I would be fine but my doctors notes are to only have the 1/2 cup of a shake as a meal so I'm not getting that 30g. I'm going today for a check up and going to ask once I'm healed can I have a full shake because that would be perfect!

That's strange. Can you drink it later in the day? Or does your surgeon not want you to have more than 1/2 cup of protein shake a day period?
