Calling all diabetics, now and before!!!
Hi,
I would like to have a quick vote of all diabetics and former diabetics, please. (This is for my information, not a real survey.) I have read so much on the diabetes sites and others...I am so confused. PLEASE HELP. Thank you to all.
1.) What surgery did you have?
2.) When was your surgery?
3.) What doctor and state?
4.) Do you still have diabetes?
5.) Is it better if not gone completely?

3) Legha, CA
4) I'll always be a diabetic ... there is no cure
5) I'm able to control my blood sugar now with diet and exercise. Before surgery, I was on insulin 2x day, metformin 2 pills 2x a day, actos, and glyberide 2x day. I came home from the hospital and still had to take metformin for a few months. Now, I jus****ch the carbs I eat and hit the gym 6x a week.
Thanks Terri,
I looked at your profile and had to laugh !! Not at you, but, at the thought of me going to a smaller shoe size !!!! I can't wait !! I wore a size 8 when I was in my 20s to 30s...then..."SMASH." Size 11 !!!! Lol.

1. I had duodenal switch surgery.
2. February 05
3. Surgeons: Cornell Hospital NY: Drs. Pomp/Gagner
4. My endocrinologist says I no longer have diabetes. Normal hemoglobin A1C; normal blood sugars, even running a little low sometimes
5. Not just better, fantastic!
I'm posting a link from another DSer (Ms Cal Culator) here, so people who are researching can check it out. As you can see from the research, DS has the best cure rate for diabetes. It was one of the deciding factors for me to do it, rather than another surgery. Some people in Europe are having the intestinal part of the DS even though they have normal weight --just to cure the diabetes.

5) Gone completely - but still need to keep an eye out and be careful.
I actually had never been diabeti****il I took the tests FOR the surgery - and found I was at 150. I was only on 1 pil a day. then during my hospital stay it went between 150-180 and they gave me some shots. Since I've been out - it's now normal (90-100) and I take no meds - but could still go back up I'm sure. I don't plan to let that happen!
