Xpost: Animal Abuse or Normal? (also OT)

opinions needed....I just took my dog to the groomers, where she has been going for over 7 yrs. This time when I walked in, one of the groomers was next to a LARGE dog crate & the dog was barking - deep booming bark. She told the dog "no" but it continued to bark. So she KICKED the dog cage, and kicked it so hard, it actually moved. I cannot believe someone in the other people's pet business would actually do that. I was sickened by it. Then the groomer who kicked the dog cage LAUGHED. I told the girl at the counter that particular groomer was to not touch or go anywhere my dog. But I'm still pissed. Should I call owner & complain? Let it go? Call animal services? What?

That is a form of animal abuse.  And the person kicking the cage has anger management problems.  When dogs are barking,  there's a reason why they are doing it. Whether it be hunger,  bathroom needs, or feeling threatened.  Maybe speak to the owner of the establishment?  I'm not sure what else to say.

ABSOLUTELY, call and complain.

a grooming facility is a stressful place for a dog.  lots of unusual people/ other animals/ smells/ surroundings etc...  dogs react to stress by barking.  it's something you should expect working as a dog groomer.

for many people their pets are their "kids"

would you work at a daycare facility and not expect to change dirty diapers?
as a dad, i watch how the daycare workers treat other peoples' kids when i pick up my daughter.  you better believe if i saw something that isn't right, i would speak up!!!

Grrr, nothing ****** me off quite like people being cruel to animals.

I would at the very least contact the owner to make them aware of the problem with their employee. I would also look into any animal welfare resources in your area (SPCA, Humane Society, animal welfare regulations) and file a formal complaint so they have something on record. There may not be much they can do about this particular situation, but if this is a pattern of abuse exhibited by this particular grooming place, those complaints will add up.

Good luck!

You were bothered by this enough to come here and ask for opinions...so your gut is already telling you that you need to do something about it.

Animals are defenseless when locked in a cage.  They also act on instinct.  We have to be their voice.  I'm not really a dog person (I have cats, but I do have a grand-dog that I adore) and this makes me mad!

I recommend you 1) get your dog out of that place and 2) call the owner and tell him/her what happened and that if this person is not removed from the facility, you will no longer do business there and you will tell everyone that you know what you witnessed.  If the owner is reputable, you can only assume he/she does not know and will immediately fix the problem.  If they do not address it, then the owner is as guilty as the idiot that kicked the cage.

Totally unacceptable I have 3 dogs and if it was one of my dogs I would like to know what is going on with them when I am paying someone to do a service for me and I would expect that they would treat my dogs as I do... or at the least not be cruel to them... we should perhaps lock this person in a cage and kick it every time they cry for water! Would that be considered cruel? I am certain it would... I would at least contact the owner and they can escalate it from there... I would also no longer bring my dogs there.. just my opinion!

Oh My Heck! I would lose my effing mind if I saw someone do that. Kicking the cage is absolutely animal abuse. The dog is scared & defenseless in that cage and so she kicks it? What a cruel *****! I would call the owner, possibly the media, animal control, the city, the better business bureau and just about anyone else who would listen to me. I feel so bad for that poor animal. If I were you, I would also get my dog the heck outta there!

If your kid was scared and crying and an adult acted like they were going to hit them you would complain.  Same difference.  This was aggression.  complain.

I am only one, But still, I am one.  I cannot do everything, but still I can do something.  And because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do
the something that I can do.

I would have called the police first to make an official report I am an animal lover 5 dogs 5 cats 3 birds 2 horse so you don't try that **** with me I will kick that person's ass all over the parking lot then I would have called the SPCA and I don't know if you have what is kind of called an Angie's List where you can go online and comment on certain businesses and share what you saw and I just cannot believe you left your dog there!  If they did it to someone's dog hell they would have done it to yours!  That ***** would have seen the wrath of Linda and had she laughed she would have been swallowing her teeth!  Sorry but thats not acceptable and to top it all off you left your dog there and posted this??????? Where was your head?

I left her with one of the other 5 groomers - the girl i know personally and she promised me she would take care of Livvy (my dog) personally.
