Boy does my tailbone hurt
I heard that the tailbone grows with obesity but it is the one thing that does not get smaller. I have gone from a size 24 to a 6 in the past 13 months and the smaller I got the more my tailbone hurt. I can hardly sit still now for more than a few minutes without shifting my weight on my butt. When I felt my tailbone I thought it felt huge.
Another weird thing is I lost my weight in my butt and hips before my waist. My midriff always lost weight before. My waist is one size larger than my hips and thighs so I go around in baggy butt and thigh clothing. I was told recently at a visit with my fourth gastro specialist that this is because of stomach distension due to a paralyzed colon. I have surgery on June 7th to have my colon removed.
I am ready to stop loosing weight now! Can anyone believe I said that???

Thanks so much for your reply and you are so right. What is a painful tailbone compared to no longer having painful joints, diabetes, high blood pressure and so many more issues that came with being obese?
On June 7th I am having what I hope is one last surgery post my initial RNY. I have to have my colon removed because it doesn't work. I can only be thankful I had my WLS prior to this upcoming surgery or I would not have been approved for the WLS. Also I am in so much of a better physical condition to go into such a serious surgery. My colon surgery has nothing to do with my weight loss surgery so don't worry that this is an issue any of you have to face. My colon has been dying for over 20 years and I even had surgery 10 years ago to try and correct this condition. This was 9 years before my WLS.
I am more afraid of the colon surgery than I was of the WLS. One minute I want to cancel the surgery and then I have the worst pain in my life and the surgery can't come soon enough. What a dilemma.

You have my sympathies and prayers. I know about the tailbone issues, get a cushion that will take the pressure off the tailbone. If that doesn't work, work with your doctor. I was told that due to the weight loss our bodies have to take time to adjust to not so much cushioning. It might be time to evaluate if you need to work on adjusting your body mechanics. I did and it has helped.
I never heard that it grew with obesity but I DO understand it hurting now...going thru that myself. I never had much cushion back there to begin with but now there is nothing there.
Even sitting in a recliner hurts so I have a pillow under me and that helps some but not enough.
Hang in there...I've heard from others that a few years out, the fat starts redistibuting and we might be lucky enough to regain our cushion from other parts that don't need it. LOL

I never even knew that one's colon can become paralyzed and have to be removed until now. I am so sorry that sounds very rough. What caused the paralysis? Do you know?

For now use a lot of padding. I did for app 1-2 years. Now I do not have to.
3 reasons:
1. worked really hard to increase my butt muscles.. (yes - yu can do that)
2. gained some weight back (was too thin for my age anyway)
3. Whth the other 2 - my tailbone got used to. And I never sit on a hard surface for mor ethan 15 min. Got my donut pillows everywhere.
