Hey folks!  I have developed an intolerance to whey protein.  Are there any non-whey protein drinks that you can recommend?

Maybe try the soy.  It is an acceptable alternative.  Stay away from the protein shots.   Have you tried the RTD whey drinks?

Soy might be a viable solution.  HSN sells one in packets, and reviews say it tastes ok. I also found a generic unbranded soy isolate protein.  I've tried it, mixed in a Magic Bullet with an antioxidant drink (similar to Monavie), and crushed refrigerator ice. It made a berry fruit flavored slushie, iwith no discernable taste of the soy protein.  I've also made a similar drink for my wife. Using an inexpensive kid Rival brand snowcone maker. I dilute the antioxidant drink in a couple of oz of water, add the soy protein powder. I then "drizzle" this over the shaved ice from the snowcone maker. Good for summer hydration, protein intake, and it's something you can eat with a spoon as opposed to drinking protein all the time. My wife makes these so often, that my fridge cannot keep up. I have to buy additional ice from the local supermarket. DAVE

Soy protein is a poison because of the taste?  Or something else I should worry about???

I already eat a ton of eggs, probably half a dozen a day.  I just cannot seem to have whey (even from my own homemade milk products) without suffering.  And protein drinks are just so incredibly convenient ....

something else... A few years back I went on a diet - high protein, low carb, etc... lots of soy product.. It almost destroy my thyroid. It took me 1 year of soy free (it is difficult if not close to impossible) to get back to normal.. using a lot of herbs and supplements to clean and to help my thyroids.

I developed symptomatic hypothyroid symptoms.  Now - I can tolerate some soy - some times... but I do stay away from soy protein, soy milk, TVP, etc.

http://thyroid.about.com/cs/soyinfo/a/soy.htm'

Menopause "guru" Christiane Northrup, MD is, for example, a huge proponent of soy. Northrup has recommended that Oprah Winfrey incorporate a great deal of soy into her diet. Coincidentally -- or not -- both women are now hypothyroid.)

On the other side of the issue are the opponents of soy, who believe that soy is a toxin, and is particularly toxic to thyroid patients. Various experts and organizations, ranging from Dr. Joseph Mercola to the Weston Price Foundation, are vocally opposed to soy.

Hundreds of epidemiological, clinical and laboratory studies link soy to:

 Malnutrition

  • Digestive distress
  • Thyroid dysfunction
  • Cognitive decline
  • Reproductive disorders
  • Infertility
  • Birth defects
  • Immune system breakdown
  • Heart disease
  • Cancer

Isn’t it time you learned the truth about soy that scientists know, that you need to know and that the soy industry has tried to suppress? The Whole Soy Story presents and interprets the often contradictory evidence on soy and disease to determine what studies are valid, which justify hope, which are mere hype – and why.

 Soy is an acquired taste.

Try veggie protein, egg protein, sure they're all acquired tastes, but you can mask them.

This is an example of an Egg Protein --  Dymatize Nutrition Elite Egg Protein Vanilla

I really really REALLY loved the dymatize whey drinks.  Wish they didn't give me uncontrollable diarrhea, these days!

I'm already eating a ton of egfs each day .... not sure I hould add more egg, as I already eat a lot of those!

Not soy.  How about egg like Jrobb?

Are you sure it is the whey and not what you are mixing it with?  I know a lot of people who can drink SOME whey products and CANNOT drink others.  Champion Pure Whey Stack seems to be a good one although I am currently buying whey at Walmart.  Since I use it for cake shakes the taste doesn't matter.

 BECKYYYYYYYYYY!!!!
I'm fer shurs that it's the whey.  I've tried three mixes at three different times, and wound up with diarrhea.  I also tried just whey ... from my own yogurt cheese .... same thing.

Also managed to add an intolerance to chocolate, which is a seriously hard blow.

I have soy protein in other products, and no problem at all.

REALLY miss the whey protein, but until my body outgrows the intolerance, it is over for me!

What are cake shakes?
