Legumes, like beans and peas (and peanuts and cashews!) contain carbs---but even so, they're considered a good source of both protein and FIBER. The carbs in legumes are the slow-burning kind (complex carbs) which help regulate blood sugar levels. Legumes are high in protein, folate, magnesium, potassium, and iron, and research has shown a direct connection between the consumption of legumes and lower LDL cholesterol, lower incidence of certain cancers, improved health in diabetics, menopause relief, and weight loss.

Darlin', you have a BMI of 60. You don't NEED the RNY, you NEED the DS. Please tell you've at least researched it! It has the very BEST long-term, maintained weight loss, the very BEST stats for resolving or prventing co-morbs like diabetes and high cholesterol, and the most liberal post-op eating plan---especially for a meat-and-potatoes eater.

Check out the DS forum here, and read the "Bites and Vites" threads. You might be amazed!
