Is this a safe medication?

I am 4 months post-op from RNY and just want to make sure it's okay to take Midol...

the ingredients in my caplets are:

acetaminophen 500mg (I know tylenol is okay)

caffeine 60mg

pyrilamine maleate 15mg

I know that NSAIDs are out so I am really hoping this is safe for my pouch, does anyone take this?

Thanks!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but the ASMBS guidelines state that Midol is one of the drugs that damage the pouch.  That information can be found in the ASMBS Allied Health Nutritional Guidelines for the Surgical Weight Loss Patient.  You can probably google it and find the information on the internet.

If you like, please pm me and leave me your email address.  I can email it to you from the packet that I have.

Uh oh, that sucks!  Thank you for your reply though, it is much appreciated.  Is there anything RNY patients can take for menstrual cramps besides plain tylenol or something with a narcotic?  I do have some muscle relaxers (zanaflex and soma for my back) but haven't taken them or needed them since surgery but they obviously work on cramps but am not sure if they are safe for my pouch either.

I guess a call to my surgeon is in order...

it's a NSAID Kady, so no...unless your doctor says it is okay, don't take it.
