Scars after surgery

I had laproscopic RNY about 20 days ago so I still have fresh cuts. Anything recommended that might help with lessening the appearence of scars?

My plastic surgeon recommended silicone ointment after I had my TT.   It cost $70 something dollars for a couple of grams in Singapore but might be cheaper here.

My just faded over time.  I didn't  need to put anything on them.  By 6 months, I was having a hard time finding them.

Once they are healed closed, you can try bio oil.  I asked for some at Christmas.  Great product.

I'm in the same boat. My scars are still healing. A couple sealed up perfectly, while a couple others have a divot along the incision line. I am planning on trying some silicone sheeting, cut down to size. It's commonly used for larger scars like a tummy tuck, or with burn victims.

Iwouldn't worry about lap scars - over the years and all my different lap surgeries - between appendix, gallbladder, reflux, exploratory, RNY, 3 knees - I must have 20-30 tiny incisions and I can barely find most of them, they fade and are tiny.

It is my huge open scars from my bowel obstruction and perforated colon that is ugly and disgusting.  I called it my zipper with my 3rd and 4th boob

I have had many surgeries not rny yet but in april my last surgery to have my stomach tied the wounds opened up but even now the scars are hard to find unless your really looking most likly they will fade in time and you will be the only one who knows. Loretta

AMANDA-you have rec'd some excellent responses, and I agree with all. I'd just like to add:

You want to be careful not to expose the scars to extra light-like sunlight or a tanning bed, while the scars are still healing-well-for several months, actually. If they turn darker, during this time, they may never lighten up again...

I have an insanely hairy stomach (damn Italian genes) which hides my MANY scars well.

The lap-RNY scars can also itch and have a pulling sensation as they heal.  And, if you tend to scar easily (some people develop significant keloiding), then ask a dermatologist or plastic surgeon for a prescription topical ointment.  I did and it really stopped the itching, pulling and the scars are almost invisible.  And, they healed much faster and with better results when compared to my other surgeries.
