I have a deep dark secret.  Much as i LOVE the results of my WLS  I've sufered creeping regain since  my honeymoon period .  AND  GOSH  does that **** me off !!

BEFORE surgery  I never felt I had a right to eat nuts ..or chocolate .. or bacon ... I TRULY felt GUILTY .  NO longer .  NOW I feel  I should be able to eat  "normal "meals and still fit into my clothes and be healthy , gosh darn it .

And thats why I'm getting revised .   I've just had enough of being abused and abusing myself .  Starvation  diets are NOT for me.

How do YOU  feel about this subject ?  ( Starvation diets post op .. NOT my revision thanks )

What are you getting revised from and to?
You've done really well on your weight loss... you should not feel guilty eating nuts, bacon, etc; they can be a fit with wls, if in moderation.  What do you mean by 'normal' meals... do you mean stuff like boxed processed foods, frozen dinners, canned pasta, white bread, etc?  Cause you know these are a main culprit of the general population getting so big, right?

If you look at countries that don't have as much processed foods as we in North America, you will note they don't have the obesity rates we do.  They don't eat or buy the quantities of food to stash in the cupboard, shop locally on a more daily basis, eat fresh, etc.  The countries that are now hosting fast food joints, etc. are finding their populations expanding - in a bad way - it is a sign that the junk we put in our bodies are doing us damage.....

Normal foods should include more beans, lentils, high protein stuff rather than empty processed carbs......... not just for wlsers but for everyone.

Sorry, sounds like I'm on a soapbox but I'm not trying to preach....just trying to understand your problem more precisely.

i think it all depends on your definition of normal. i'm not convinced that there is such a thing as "normal" eating. i know that when i long to be "normal", what i'm really feeling is the deep wish that eating and food were never an issue for me in the first place. but they are, and i cant change that, no matter what surgery or diet i follow.

I think you are misinformed - there is NO WLS that allows you to eat everything and anything without impunity.

I don't live on a starvation diet I eat between 2000 and 3000 calories a day.  I eat carbs the difference is that I eat in moderation and what I eat gets put to use.  I live a fit and healthy lifestyle and enjoy it.

Your lifestyle can play a large part in your diet.

I assume you are talking about getting the DS?

Thing is, you would still need to meet the criteria for any WLS (40BMI, or 35BMI with co-morbs), and it wasn't very long ago that you were saying how thin you were, in fact I think it was even bikini-able. So, how much regain have you had in just a few months?? I don't see how it's possible that you weigh enough to qualify for revision.

There are some *****vised without significant regain to resolve pouch or stoma issues, but if you are having issues, you need to start documenting stuff like RH or whatever with your doctor. Being unable to eat a few specific foods will likely not be enough for any surgeon to agree to revise you.

Also, since you have already had RNY, a revision to DS is a much bigger deal then having a virgin DS. It's a complicated surgery, and therefor only a handful of surgeons can do it. As much as I love the DS, I'd do my damnedest to make my RNY work before having a revision surgery.

Now, there is a gal *****vised her RNY to DS that has had way more than her share of problems, but I recommend reading her posts to see what COULD happen. She has a great post on the revision board right now, and her name is Renfairewench. She did not win the lottery of complications, and has been very open about her journey.

Thank you Bear Mom.  I did go over to the revision board but couldn't find her .

I guess I'm just at the point where I'm DISGUSTED That  my weight is STILL an issue.  I KNOW I eat the right things .  I don't eat  a lot . I exercise .

I guess atthis point i think i DESERVE better results .

I am also confused about what kind of revision you are talking about. Do you mean reverse your RNY? Can that be done?

I think you may have a skewed idea of what's realistic. Even with a revision, you can't eat anything you want and maintain. On the other hand, starvation isn't right either. Being satisfied probably depends on what kinds of food you eat as well as how much you eat.

I'm still ruling out some foods that I have no self-control around and that I can eat a lot of because they don't stick with me (I hope that won't be life-long, that I'll learn to moderate dark chocolate for example, but I love being healthy more than I love dark chocolate.) But I enjoy lots of other "treat" foods that I can manage.

If I tell myself I have a right to chocolate or bacon, guess what: I'll regain too (I can moderate nuts, so I eat those, but if I didn't moderate them they are some caloric sons of guns.) I'm a newbie, but I know that my success depends on what kinds of foods I get in the habit of eating. No intention of starvation dieting, just not pretending that the WLS was a cure for my eating problems.

Good luck!

Highest weight: 335 lbs, BMI 50.9
Pre-op weight: 319 lbs, BMI 48.5
Current range: 140-144, BMI 21.3 - 22

175+ lbs lost, maintaining since February 2012

OOH I like this!  Habits do change.  I'm to the point at 8+ years out I can't stand fast food- it is so gross.  I'll buy it for the kids and just eat leftovers myself.  The taste isn't worth the calories!
