I figured it would be one more test that i would pass in flying colors.....nope, not this time.

It seems i have a ulcer, a hital hernia, gastritis and an inflamed esophagus.

He gave me nexium and a different drug for my joint pain. Seems that ive taken so much

ibuprofen that ive caused damage to my body. He took various biopsies as well.

Im to go back in 6 weeks to see if i am healed. This journey has uncovered quite a lot of

secrets my body has been keeping from me. Hopefully this is the last one.

Wow, the warnings on ibuprofen are real then!  You are living proof.  Thankfully you are getting help and getting healed up !

Did you not have any pain at all with these issues?

I had normal heartburn, i treated it with tums. I never thought of all these complications. Thank goodness for this test. I dont know what would have happened.

What form of WLS are you planning? Given that you've already got trouble with ulcers, etc., I would strongly recommend against the RNY. You don't need a huge, blind, remnant stomach that can develop ulcers post-op, but can't be 'scoped. Have you considered the Sleeve or the DS?

Given the damage to her esophagus from reflux, the last surgery I would recommend is the sleeve.

As a DSer, I too have a Sleeved stomach---and it completely cured my acid reflux. Pre-op, mine was BAD. I often had to sleep sitting up. Since my surgery 9+ years ago, zero reflux. And I take NSAIDs daily.

I suppose I am lucky to not have any conditions that require me to take NSAIDS, but I am always surprised by how cavalier people are that take them (or Tylenol) every day ...   WLS or not!

I'm glad you have found these problems so they don't become worse in the future.   Good luck with your surgery!

I take NSAIDs daily, but I wouldn't exactly say I'm cavalier about it---I see my doc every three months and get all sorts of tests. The alternative would be to either become dependent on narcotics, which pretty much turn me into a zombie, or curl up in a little ball and cry all day. (*grin*)

I took NSAIDS for 10 years for back pain and ended up with Kidney damage. I don't recommend taking them for any length of time.

With any medication, it's important to weigh the advantages against the potential risks.I've suffered with extensive arthritis since age 20, and I turned 55 early last month. I can't function without NSAIDs---but I see my doctor quarterly, and have extensive bloodwork done. She checks me every way from Sunday, and so far so good. I will continue to take NSAIDs daily until either I start showing symptoms of a problem, or something better comes along.
