Straw or No Straw?

I'm 3 days post-op VSG.

I've heard both things. Do NOT drink from a straw and it's ok to drink from a straw.

I'd like to know what reason I shouldn't use a straw. Does anyone here know?

Thanks

Using a straw adds air to your stomach. This can cause discomfort. Why bother

It doesn't cause me any discomfort, but yeah, if it causes you discomfort, don't do it.  Other than that, I don't think there is any reason.

Thanks. I have always preferred drinking with a straw. Now that most of my food is liquid, I was concerned that the straw was banned from my life forever.

My doc said that some people like to use a straw and it doesn't cause them problems. He said try not to use one because it can cause more air to go into the tummy, which can cause extra gas.

That rule was originally for RNY, but somehow spread to all procedures.  You can use a straw for VSG
