new whey?

Yeah.  the PCDAAS is a measurement of the digestibility of protein based on the amino acids.  Collagen is an incomplete protein, meaning it is missing some amino acids.  So in this brand of protein shot, they add a tiny bit of whey, which is a complete protein, and then they can truthfully say it has all the amino acids.  But not in the right amounts.

An egg has a PCDAAS of 1.0, the highest score you can get.  So does whey isolate protein powder.

Most of these protein shots that are mostly collagen have a score of something like 0.03 or 0.04.  That is barely better than zero.

You can, however, make your own protein shots.  Mix a scoop of protein powder in about three ounces of liquid.  It will be thick and have a very strong taste - just like these shots.  But if you are going to drink three or four ounces of thick, icky-tasting liquid, you might as well at least get some decent protein from it.

Or, as Lora suggests, try the Yes Whey brand from Bariatric Advantage, the only one I'm aware of out there that is all whey protein and therefore actually a good source of protein.

Unjury and Syntrax Nectar are both 100% whey protein isolate as well, just to let you know. :) 

I think she means the protein shots (Yes Whey that you can buy at Bariatric Advantage) - the ones with 42g of protein in a 3 ounce shot - are the only protein shots that are 100% whey protein isolate.  There are a LOT of protein shakes/powders/supplements out there that are 100% whey protein isolate.  But the only SHOTS that have 100% whey protein isolate are Yes Whey from Bariatric Advantage. 

They are disgusting in both taste and texture, IMO.  More importantly, contain mostly collagen protein that is very little use to you.  

If you want to try one of the protein shots, get the Yes Whey brand which is 100% whey protein and isn't slimy.

Those things are indeed the worst. I had to do them once a day on my 2 days of liquids pre-op. Hands down the most terrible thing about the process. Worse than getting cut open, post-op pain and constipation. I look at those little capsules and a tiny voice in my brain cries out "Noooooooooo..."
