Sensitive Personal "woman" question for those of you post surgery!

I have a very sensitive and embarassing problem and I am worried about what will happen (or may not happen) as I lose weight once I have surgery.  I am due to have RNY in February and right now my BMI is 47.  I have an abnormally large "fat pillow" on top of my pubic bone.  I dont even know what to call it.  I had my GYN tell me it may be something similar to a tumor but not health threatening.  I already have to wear most underwear backwards because of the amount of skin/fat I  have.  This is horribly embarrasing.  I am worried that as I lose weight this part of my body will NOT get smaller and then what that is going to look like after I drop 100 lbs.  I hope I am not the ONLY person that has had this.  I am  hoping that some of you may be able to give me advice from what you have experienced and no, this is not a joke or a prank.

Thank you

Very common in someone of your BMI - you will need a Mons reduction once you have lost your weight.

No personal experience, but it can only get better. It may get smaller but you will still have skin.. That is why when you have your surgery, you work really hard, do what you are supposed to do to get healthy and let the plastic surgeon handle it.

As you lose weight you may notice your Mons area reduce and start to hang.  Later down the road, you can get a Mons Lift along with a tummy tuck at the same time.  It's quite common.

You may or may not continue to have a pillow of fat there after you lose weight.  If you do and it bothers you, you can have plastic surgery to correct it.

Just to add to the discussion, in case what your talking about is different than just a big area of normal fat.

I don't have the mons issue, but I did have two "lumps" on my rib cage that previously were about the size of a golf ball and kind of squishy firm.... not hard, but not normal fat texture.  The regular Dr had called them fatty deposits and said they weren't anything to worry about.

They did not reduce as rapidly as my other fat as I lost weight, but they DID reduce and are still shrinking.  One, I can't find any more (it was smaller) and the other one is still there, but kind of the size of a 1/2 marble, flattened.  So even if what you are talking about is a firmer fatty deposit, don't worry... if it is fat, it will reduce!

I have the exact same problem/worry. I know of a girl who had the VSG and lost 80lbs but still has the "fat pillow" hanging. She said that once she reaches her goal weight that she will get it removed. I figure that I will probably have the same issue.

Quite common. Google "mons pubis lift & reduction" to get more information.

If you do get a tummy tuck, do not assume it is included unless you specify you want this.

Yes, excellent warning!  Even with a panniculectomy, the mons is NOT included unless the surgeon opts to throw it in for free (and I only know of one case of that happening) or you make arrangements to pay for that separately out of pocket.
