how do you deal with the liquid pre-op diet?

How do others deal with the pre-op diet? I'm not hungry, the protein keeps me full feeling. I guess it's the chewing of solid food I miss. My husband feels guilty for eating in front of me, but that doesn't bother me, I know he has to eat and I don't want him to hide or feel guilty.

Literally one hour ago I chewed my first piece of food in 4 weeks, it was the best scrambled egg ever. I had liquid pre op, clear liquids week after surgery then 2 weeks of full liquids. I can't really give much advice other than to just expand your horizons the best you can...multiple types of protein shakes, different decaf teas, assortment of crystal light. You'll be in full liquids before you know it and you can try different types of excellent Greek yogurt and a little sugar free pudding.

The time does fly by, stick to it and keep your eye on the prize. Good luck!

I have lots of crystal light flavors, sugar free Popsicles and jello to give variety. The best thing so far is the broth off the Raman noodles my husband made yesterday. I think it's the seasoning I miss. I keep reminding myself of my goal of having a successful surgery.

Kara, I did a two week pre-op however, mine was not all totally liquid. I had 5-6 medifast products a day to go along with it. Most of it was soup based or oatmeal or egg or mashed potatoes...but it was a little food. Sugar free popcycles and sugar free jello I liked. Also, for the chew factory I was allowed sugar free gum.

It sucks.  No two ways about it.

But you deal with it and get through it.  I kept reminding myself that all the foods I was craving would always be there in the future. Whether I choose to eat them or not is another thing.

I think I've eaten enough cheeseburgers in my life to feed a medium sized African nation.

For me, the pre-op diet was the worst part of this whole journey.  Just keep powering through.  Even the soreness after surgery was easier to deal with.  And then eating gets easier as time goes on.

I am on the pre-op diet as well. Ten days of all liquids and I will tell you, the struggle is real! I was doing alright until this morning (day 5). All of a sudden the protein drinks are soooo sweet that it is hard to get them down. I do not like the broths so it has been hard. Last night I emailed my nutritionist about having egg drop soup and I thought I would kiss my computer screen this morning when she said I could have it in moderation (2-3 times). I also use Crush powder for my water that is sugar free and SO good!
