Hi, I am new to this Forum and have found the information very helpful.  I am considering WLS and have just started my research.  My insurance will not pay for it, there is an exclusion for WLS.  So, I will need to pay cash.  I am in the Dallas, TX area.  If you have paid cash could you please share the approximate cost and who you used.  I don't want to shop for the cheapest surgeon but I need a point of reference.

Thank you!

Have you considered going to Mexico for your surgery?  We would be glad to give you some names of surgeons in your area and MX.  When asking for pricing be sure and ask for a discount for cash pay and make sure the quote includes services in the hospital.

Hi Kathy, I would like a list of financing companies for medical loans, please. I was banded in Mexico in 2010 but would like to have revision surgery to sleeve. My insurance will cover the sleeve but not the band removal. Thanks.

In Tucson, AZ, my surgeon charges $24k for self-pay VSG. That includes the surgery, follow-up visits for 3 months afterwards, all pre-op testing, and the hospital stay.

Also keep in mind that if your insurance does not pay for the surgery it will probably not pay for any complications of the surgery.

I used Dr. Leslie Miles, in Birmingham, Alabama. He works out of St. Vincent Hospital, which is a COE. Cash price is $11,600, and this is hospital, surgery, labwork, nutrition seminar, 3 months of Lovenox, and 1 year of follow-up visits and post op complication Insurance. Good luck to you!

Thankfully I only had 30 days of Lovenox and that was too many! I couldn't imagine 3 months worth.

I didn't use my whole supply. I think I did maybe three weeks and donated the rest to a medical charity!!

I'm in Houston so prices are probably going to be pretty similar to Dallas I would assume.  I chose a surgeon with a lot of experience and I think his cash price was $15,000 for sleeve & this included follow ups with him and nutritionist.  Or if you are having the sleeve plus hiatal hernia repair the cash price for sleeve was 12,500.  There are cheaper ones in the area, but experience was important to me so I was willing to pay more.
